Hay Feeder

Hi. We have hay bags for our piggies but they are constantly sitting in them and using them as their loo! Looking for an alternative that they can’t sit in. Any recommendations? Thanks xx

Piggies, play,eat and sleep and of course poop/pee in their hay- they love it so much! I think you're fighting a losing battle there and that's just the way they are, but of course we love them anyway.

Doesn't matter where I put the hay- I've never had a dedicated rack- just a corner or a box, they do what comes naturally, so just refresh and keep some old stuff when you clean out so it smells like them and they know where they are then.

I do love watching them dive into a hay pile though- the popcorning and happy sounds are worth it

I agree - piggies need to be amongst hay all the time, and a lot of it. you aren't going to stop them from pooping on it. hay waste is part and parcel of piggy keeping. I find my piggies eat so much more now I don't use racks or trays at all. it just gets thrown in loose and they have such a good time with it and eat loads.

We use a hay tray/hay bag combination approach.
They have a large plastic hay tray stuffed with hay for eating, burrowing and sleeping in, and then have a fabric hay bag hung above the hay tray with the more expensive hay in.

We made our own hay bags and kept the holes pretty small so the piggies don't even try to get in.

My five have a magazine rack for hay which is filled twice a day and two hay trays lined with newspaper that the rack sits on. The rest of the cage has fleece cage liners and 3 ikea beds with extra mini liners under them.
