Hay help please

Hiya fellow piggy slaves , has anyone ordered Ings hay lately from hay and straw? If so is it ok? anyone had any issues?
I use to buy it regularly for my 1st lot of fur babies but not brought it in a long while as last time I did it wasn't the normal good quality, it smelt and looked mouldy so was really put off ordering again (i was refunded) i ended up buying from the dust free hay company instead which has American Timothy, it went down well with my boys yet the amount you can order is a smaller amount then the ings.
Any hay advice would be really helpful as my current boys are on a local pet shop hay which looks ok and a big bag for £8 Is fab but it's dusty, it seemed damp this time too so not happy to feed it to them any more

Yes I ordered it (for the first time) some perhaps 2-3 weeks ago. It smells absolutely gorgeous and the piggies really loved it! I ordered two more bags this week and I’m just waiting on delivery.

Siikibam think youuuu, that's good to hear your piggies love it my other boys did too until we had a few bad batches thank you for replying I will order it again
 
I used to exclusively use Ings until a year ago, but a couple of slightly more stalky bags made me switch to Haybox. Now, Haybox meadow is the most amazing hay when you get a good box, but the quality is very variable (especially due to the last couple of summers that have been far too hot for good hay). My last delivery is thin, doesn't hold it's shape well for tunneling and is full of large twigs and loads of tiny thorns and thistle heads (5 years with 11 piggies and this month I had my first two haypokes in the same week)... but Haybox won't refund as there is "natural variation in the hay". Their timothy has always been great though.

Sorry, I don't mean to rant -- it's just frustrating as now my pigs won't eat much of anything except a "good" lot of Haybox 😅. @Siikibam, I have ordered another bag of Ings after hearing your endorsement, fingers crossed here! Currently Flubs demands 4 (sometimes 5!) different types of hay as none are good enough for his fussy little old man body :fog:
 
Bwahahaa go Flubs!, you make your demands known 🤪 I’ve been lucky so far in that the piggies have liked the hay I buy. Well, apart from the time I bought some as an emergency because I’d ran out. It was a Burgess excel with dandelion and marigold. They absolutely refused to eat it 🤨

I ordered two more bags so hopefully it is still decent. Smelt very yum and was nice and green.

Iam hoping the TimothyHay.co.uk will have good quality Orchard hay? Read it copes better with draughts. Fingers crossed! I also have 4 hat types atm 🤦‍♀️ hopefully this Orchard will be compromise for all! Can't wait for lawn time!
 
As usual, the Ings hay has arrived quickly. It may not be as green as Haybox but I forgot how long it is -- great for making tunnels in! I'll let the pigs make their feelings known...

If they continue to prefer Ings it looks like I'll be making my 6-monthly pilgrimmage down to the lovely Anne in Carnforth to get some bales straight from the hay shed :wub: Even with the petrol for the 3 hour round trip it works out at £50 or less for ~80kg of hay (four small bale)!
 
@Tara95, any feedback from you and your piggies on the Orchard hay from Healthy Herby? Flub's interest in the Ings is waning, I swear he's only happy when he has a new variety :mal: .
 
Spud likes the Orchard from Healthy Herby. Dash not so keen. They both like the Timothy but typically leave all the stalky bits, which is a fair bit to be honest.

I've just had some Ings turn up from Hay and Straw as we've not tried that before. They both seem keen at the moment.

My guinea pigs really love it. Probably more so with the Timothy it smells great and is much softer than the Timothy from Haybox but isn't as Green. Orchard grass and dandelion mix seems to be a big hit with them all. :) X
 
My recent HayBox delivery hay has been lovely ( According to the piggies).
They love the first cut and the meadow hay best.
It’s handy having the recommendations about other hay suppliers and types.
 
My Haybox delivery was also very nice. I have kept using Haybox Timothy as mine love it especially the stalkier parts (perhaps it's because they're all relatively young and feel the need to grind their teeth down?) I find it's much cheaper to order in bulk. I order 15kg of Timothy for just over £30ish I believe. Whereas I spent about £30 for 10kg of orchard and dandelion from healthy herby. Much more practical box sizes which I often reuse for the Haybox Timothy hay. and I think as it was so new they did show a preference for the orchard grass, they never really used to eat the Meadow hay from haybox they just used to go straight for the Timothy so I'm pleased they're enjoying the softer hay but at the same time they've got expensive taste so I think I'll keep it as a treat hay! :)
