I gave the pigs their hay this morning as usual and came back in two minutes later with veggies to see that Pixel had a teeny bit of hay stuck along her bottom eyelid :( I've managed to get it out but her eye looks a bit cloudy and she has a bit of a squint :( Vet appointment booked for 1pm.

That's not a good way to start the day. Guinea pigs seem to have a life that means even eating their natural foodstuffs holds dangers. I do hope everything goes well with Pixel.

Why do they insist on sticking their whole face in :) Good luck at the vets, ask for pain relief aswell as eye drops.

At least you spotted the problem very quickly and removed the offending object. The eye shouldn't be too badly damaged. Good luck at the vets. Let us know how you get on.

Just got back, Pixel has a lovely green eye now from the dye! Unfortunately there was an ulcer and tiny scratch so I have some drops for three times a day and she has had a teeny bit of local anaesthetic in there too. The vet reckons the scratch is small enough to heal within 24-48 hours but if the eye gets more cloudy and/or goes blue to bring her straight back in.

Bad times for a piggy who stands in the hay tray waiting for fresh hay to be tipped on top of her!

Bless her, get well soon Pixel. One of my girls had the same and she recovered fine :)

No - I asked and he said it delays the healing process that the drops provide :(

Well done for catching it early, healing vibes x

One of my biggest fears is a hay poke in the eye as I'm so squeamish when it comes to eyes. Well done for acting so quickly. Silly piggies stick their heads into scratchy hay. Get well soon Pixel.

I've not heard that before and I have given pain relief whenever mine have a hay poke.
My vet doesn't seem to be very forthcoming with pain relief - I find it rather odd. He is the most cavy-savy in the area but maybe I should start to go further afield.

I'm just home from work and already my ginger fatty-pig is looking better :) No more squint, her eye isn't as cloudy and she's chattering and waddling about :)
