When I got home from work yesterday I went to give the piggies their usual long grass as they have not got the hang of pulling the grass out of my lawn yet... I noticed that Sausage has a piece of hay stuck in the corner of her eye. I have removed it and it was in place for maximum of twelve hours (working day). Eye is slightly cloudy but not inflammed. Have bathed with sterile saline solution. What should I do?

If you need to get gel into her eye to clear the infection, a good way to do so without too much wiggling is to to sit your pig on your lap with a bowl of fresh grass and wait until Sausage (I like that name!) is completely absorbed with food! Then you have a far better chance at getting at the eye without upsetting the pig.

If the infection is painful, the first couple of days will be a bit tricky as they don't like anything coming near their eye; after that it will be a lot easier.

Make sure there is no hay or woodchips where she sleeps, as the gel is a bit sticky. Check with your vets if in any doubt!

Best wishes
Vicky

Love the guinea pictures :). Just to say Sausage has a clear eye again so hay problem sorted.
