Is it ok just to keep the hay confined to hay racks? I was wondering if this would make it harder for the pigs to eat it rather than litter trays?rolleyes

At the moment i have a litter tray filled with hay and a hay rack above it. Only recenlty i have seen them use the hay rack (maybe because its situated above the litter tray) and as I'm making a new c&c cage on the weekend i wondered if i should still keep the litter tray or just the hay racks? I was thinking of just putting a little hay in the tray and use it for the wee/poo area as i would put it under the hay rack, so then the main source of hay would be hay rack. :{
I just done a new set up in their cage with the fleece change over, as i did have hay all over the floor and i used it for the bedding areas. I think i would feel mean taking it away. :aLJFBQ00151070111C:

The other options is a hay loft? But i think they will just sleep in it rather than eat it and then i will be throwing away lots of good hay. I'm so confused!

Does anyone else just use hay racks ? (What ever happens i will still be putting hay racks in.)

i use hay racks & my boys have no problems getting to their hay they always pull it out of the rack if they want to sleep on it

I use cheaper hay for my hay beds and keep the high quality for eating.

That was my plan too, put the cheap stuff in the hay trays and then the oxbow in the hay racks. I just hope Joey takes to the hay rack as ive not seen him use it only Gizmo, but he did used to use it a few months ago and then stopped when i put the good stuff in the middle of the cage and in toilet rolls. :)

In my C&C set up I have hay racks with litter trays filled up underneath. I put really soft but cheap bedding hay in the trays and the expensive stuff in the racks.
They do eat the stuff out the litter trays too but mainly the hay rack stuff.

I have a hay loft too in the rabbit 150 and they do spend alot of time sleeping in it and I change it every day. They eat it when I first put it in but then they wee on it sleep in it. It does take alot of hay but they love lounging up there so much. I kind of use it like a large litter tray as we have a hay rack up there (that they use) and all pellets and veg up there too. It does need a daily change.

Not long now until you get your cage? When's your dad doing it for you?

On the weekend, well sunday! I'm so excited, just hope the correx place is open on saturdays, but I'm sure it will be, its only 10mins away from me.

I am considering the hay loft as like you said Lisa its like a large litter tray and I'm sure the boys will love sleeping in it. :))

I use hay for their bedding and put lots in their cages but I buy mine from a local farm for £4.00 a bale.

I've just bought a new indoor cage for the girls and it comes with a hayrack but I haven't seen them use it yet.

How exciting! 2 sleeps to go :)):)):))

Can't wait to see what you do and with the hay you can try it whichever way you want and you can do it different if you don't like how it's going.

hayracks are fine on their own. I just use racks and then as a treat now and then they get a paper bag filled with hay for them to play in!

This is what I do and Roge is fine with it
