Since pellets have hay in them, why does one have to feed additional hay?

Off the top of my head because hay should be the mainstay of their diet and pellets contain additional things, they need a lot of fibre, hay is best for keeping their teeth in check.

Hay is important for maintaining good dental wear and providing plenty of roughage for digestion.

Pellets make up only 5% of the overall diet; hay should be at least 75-80%.
