Hay Poke

My boy has a hay poke and the vets are still not open. It has only developed recently. I was prescribed isathal fusidic acid 10mg eye drops for a previous pig with the same condition and symptoms, however I am uncertain of the dose as it has been awhile. Does anyone have any idea? I will ring the vets as soon as they reopen to confirm the dosage and probably get some more as there isn't much left.

There should be an emergency vet number that can give you advice. I know with eye drops there's a limit on the length of time they can be open and still useable.

Isathal / fucithalmic drops shouldn't be used after 1 month of opening.

Best ring the emergency vets to make sure there isn't any damage or ulcers in the eye.

Do the emergency vets provide just advice, or also offer a physical service? I'm a little confused about that. Would they be accessible even at this time?

Yep, but it usually costs more as the vet might have to come from home for you.

If I ring my local vet out of hours I get put through to the emergency vet that covers the area where I live. I've used it a few times over the past year. They'll definitely check your pig for you to see if there is hay still in it, or if the eye is injured.

I'll probably have to wait, but will ring for advice. Chances are I will pick up a new prescription of Isathal tomorrow if the place is open. Thanks for the advice.

I've used the emergency vets once for a hay poke, like above, we rang the regular vet then they put us through to the emergency vet where we explained the situation and we went down there where they removed the hay and gave us the medication. Cost about £120 though, better than loosing an eye mind.
