I'm having a bit of a dilemma about hayracks right now. I currently have guineas but am getting rabbits also in two weeks i need something to suit both as I have had so many different types of hayracks and none are suitable.

I started with those metal ones which kinda fold flat like these:

but my guineas pull them off and I'm scared of them closing and trapping their feet or heads or something, plus they are too small for bunnys as I have to refill them 4 times a day (i have one per two guineas) so guessing rabbits must eat more and that would just be impossible.

I bought these new ones and didn't realise how flimsy plastic they are:

Anyone I gave one to one set of pigs and after two weeks no problems. but then I gave to my other set and by next morning they had pulled if off, chewed one of the hooks off and a big chunk off another part

I'm too frighten to now give one to my bunnies and one set of pigs has had theirs confiscated and wondered if anyone had a better one and where they got it?

I have just bought two kitchen utensil drying rack things from Wilkinsons - £2.99 each :) They are metal ones

Here you go :)

I've attached it with cable ties so that it hangs from the bars. It has a base which is like a metal grid, so the hay doesn't all fall out of the bottom and it is as wide as the kitten litter tray.

I had one of those green hay manger things but two of the piggies figured out how to climb into it rolleyes I also found they didn't hold much hay.

This cutlery rack makes a great hay rack - but a crappy cutlery rack! We found this out because we have one in our kitchen, everything just falls over and slips out the side. Then I saw a post by someone on here who used a round rack as a hay rack and took another look at ours. I then went out and bought two new ones for the cages :)

this looks fab and just like what i need, will have to pay a visit to wilkos i think - thanx :)

I tried looking on their website but its not on there - But they have been in my local store for forever! On the other side to what you can see, there is a little metal plaque thing on it that is stamped with 'cutlery', just so you know what you are looking out for :)

that does look great - a good size too

Yep :) The only downside is that they are open on all sides. That's why I have the correx at the back of it, to stop the hay spilling out over the floor. Problem easily solved!

what a brilliant idea, i need a bigger hay rack as I'm constantly filling mine up, i usually throw some in the hutch too

Just to give a guide, although I guess all piggies will be different, I have one of these in each cage (three piggies in each cage) and I fill it right back up before I go to bed. There is normally the smallest amount left before I fill it back up. Its normally almost full in the morning. Mine tend to eat hay in the evening. I also scatter hay in the kitten litter tray which one trio tend to eat more of. The other trio only eats a little of this hay.

just wanted to say thanks again. I went today and got one. There was only one so gave it to the pigs who did the damage to the last one the other ones still have a plastic rack as haven't so far chewed it but i will replace it as soon as they get more in ! thanx again! I am setting up a new thread to show the damage as it is quite worrying incase pigs ingest any pieces!

You're welcome :) Glad you managed to get one! Keep an eye out instore, they do seem to have them come in frequently. Wilkos is great for little finds!

I'll keep an eye out for your thread too.
