I am looking for some hay recommendations, I have had pets at home Timothy hay however its hit and miss and one bag was all yellow and musty so we threw most of it away, I have switched them to the Burgess Excel Timothy Hay which they love but i do find it a bit spiky and worry it will poke one of their eyes out!

Online is preferable and must not be very dusty as myself and the piggies are both a sensitive!

I have seen people talk about B&M but we don't live near one unfortunately, I also prefer to buy smaller packs as we live in a London flat!

Thanks!

Timothyhay.co.uk do a good deal on hay. I normally get the soft timothy hay at £19.50 with delivery included for a 9kg bag. Its compressed but still lovely and green.

Thanks for the suggestions I will take a look!

Hay pokes seem common because us lot are always on the forum, and see them come up alot, how many forum guinea pigs are there?

I have 4!

Hay poke wise, my last pair of girls, over a 4 year period, the same one had a hay poke just twice. Once the hay was still in there, once it was just irritation. Both times easily treated with eye ointment.

(From the vets, for those who might think I home treated on spec 😳)

I might try that one next time I’m in pets at home, it’s the same price per kg as the burgess excel I think!
To feed this as a main hay, itl be expensive. But I feed b and m Timothy as the main feeding hay at £2 a bag, or the range nature own hay at £3 a bag. Then this alfalfa King Timothy in one corner of the cage. They choose this over all other hays. It's super green, smells gorgeous, and has the grass heads in the bag aswell it's always good quality.

Hi, can’t recommend haybox online hay enough it’s amazing. Only thing is you don’t get small packs of it. I found my girls wouldn’t eat the pets at home Timothy. Is it the Burgess with dandelion & marigold? I only ask because that’s what I was feeding my girls but I didn’t know that’s more of a treat hay so had to stop that. You do get a plain version but Iv never found it in shops. My 2 wouldn’t eat the pets at home & another brand after I stopped the burgess but they live the haybox hay that I got a few days ago so are eating great x

I am about to order our first hay box as so many have recommended it defiantly seems like the best option! We are feeding them the plain Timothy from burgess at the moment (it’s the ones that says it’s for rabbits), they seem more picky with that as the love the seed heads than they were with the pets at home musty stuff! We are lucky we have pretty greedy piggies so I’m sure (I hope) it will be a smooth transition!

Hay box ordered! Thanks e ermine for the recommendations they were really helpful’ :D
