Hay is best kept in a cool dry place, it is best if it is removed from the plastic bag and put into a cotton bag (I use an old pillowcase) Hope this helps :)

Thanks. Ive been putting it in a large plastic bag. Noticed my pigs haven't ate it today so it just made me think if I'm not storing it right. I'll go do that now. Thanks x

I have a bale of hay in an old duvet cover in the cupboard under the stairs, the farmer still thinks I'm mad when I go to collect it from the farm :))

i store my bale in the wheelie bin that is supposed to be for garden waste:)) it fits in perfectly

Never thought about putting it in a wheelie bin, thats an excellent idea for storing it outside -c

i phoned the council and told them my bin had gone missing;) they sent me a new one out straight away. so i have one for hay storage and one for garden waste - but don't tell anyone:x:))

i never heard the thing about the cotton case!
I keep mine under the stairs, when the bags full i leave it open, when it's gone down a bit i use an elastic band around the top.

If the hay gets warm or there is any dampness in it the plastic will keep it in whereas the duvet or pillowcase will absorb any dampness out of the hay therefore keeping it fresh for longer.

Ah makes sense :)
It's not far from a radiator so maybe I should always leave the bag open?

That's genius. I have mine in a cardboard box but it is so annoying lugging it around. Might have to try the bag idea :)

This is very interesting, I've been considering getting larger quantities of hay and I love the idea of the wheelie bin since I can get them from work with no problems.

I have a hay bale bag. I got it off ebay years ago!

I keep ours in large storage containers with the lids off, one for Meadow, one for the Timothy and one for Readigrass stacked on top of each other
We used bales for a while and kept it in a duvet then in a small wheelie bin OH 'found' but went back to smaller packs as space was an issue... a wheelie bin indoors was not ideal :x :(|)
The bin was returned to where it was 'found' when it was dark rolleyes
