So I found the cause of Leonards pain, discomfort and UTI the other week, he was rolling around kicking his back legs out tonight so I get him out, gently press his bladder like I was shown and a little dribble of clear urine came out, along with the tip of his penis, where I could see trapped inside the foreskin between it and the penis shaft was a long strand of hay. So I manage to get the hay out, and I can see his penis is a very deep purple, but it shoots back in before I can get a good look. I have never, ever since bringing him home managed to get him to stick it out to check it, it just wont come out!
Anyway, I'm taking him down the vet tomorrow to make sure theres nothing else lodged down there thats causing him pain, hopefully to see someone capable of getting him to pop it out, because I cant. Is there some sort or trick to it?! He seems much better with the hay piece out, he's peed 3 times already with obvious relief, so hopefully thats the end of it once any irritation goes down. I cant imagine how uncomfortable and sore the poor boy must have been! Is there anything I can do to make him more comfortable? Any advice on getting him to let me check his bits and bobs would be appreciated too, ive never had any trouble with my old boar who used to have cauliflower willy, it was something I was able to do regularly, but for some reason Leonards just wont come out.

Well done for managing to get the hay out. A vet check is a good idea but l suspect you have sorted it. It' always worth checking willies regularly for this sort of problem, hair , hay and general gunk builds up more in some piggies than others.
If the penis is difficult to extrude then try holding his bottom in a bowl of warm water and you might find it easier to ease the penis out. Good luck!

Ouch! Your poor Leonard! That must have been so sore and uncomfortable for him. Well done in finding the cause. I find it difficult to check on Christians willy sometimes too. I find that a piece of warm cotton wool on his bits helps!

So for the first time ever, with warm hands, coconut oil and determination, I managed to get his willy out... none of my other boys were ever this shy at waving it around for cleaning! At least now I know its physically possible for him, I can check it more often.

So anyway, in my searching I found a hardened piece of smegma which was holding a collar of hay around the shaft. Poor boy! Ive given it a good clean and wipe with coconut oil there is luckily no damage or swelling. The angry purple colour he had yesterday has almost gone back to a more normal colour.

Its a good job we love them!
Heres what I found anyway, must of been really sore :(

Oh heavens above. Poor Leonard. That must have been sooo sore. Well done for getting it out and cleaning him up again.

Nasty! Poor boy. Dennis is not shy about waving his willy around either. But I just cannot get it clean there is A LOT of dried smegma around it and I have tried just about everything to get it off! Any suggestions welcome! It is not causing him any pain but I reckon it will do if left for much longer!

Not sure about the dried smegma, I was hoping the coconut oil on a weekly basis or so would clear that up, but I suppose there will always be some!

The piece of hay I got out last night was about an inch long too..no wonder he was rolling around, it must have been so sore!
Hopefully he doesnt stick anything else up there now! ... fingers crossed it gets easier to get him out from now on.

Its OK I managed to get rid of most of it today. I have been trying for ages as I said in my earlier post. Today I just put some warm water in a bowl and soaked some cotton wool in it and gently wiped and away it came. I carried on until I got a squeak of protest and then I stopped. It must have been all the preparatory work I'd done before hand with coconut oil as @Eriathwen has been doing! I'll leave it a couple of days then try again!

I'm so glad he is feeling better now but can I just say how funny the first bit of this post was! I have the same problem with my Mo so I'll try the warm water trick....
