Hay stuck on hay bag after wash

Hi everyone,

I like to use hay bags for my guinea pigs and recently stuck some in the wash but the problem is that after the wash there's still a bit of hay stuck in the corners of the bag and stuck on the Velcro side.

My worry is that now that it's been through the wash, the hay that's in the bag is now not safe for consumption and my guinea pigs will get sick if they eat any of those strands. Is this a genuine risk? Would it be ok to continue using the bags?

I would just remove the strands in the bag but they're mostly very small bits quite hard to get rid of.

Any help or tips given are greatly appreciated

It’s recommended to just place loose hay piles on the floor of the cage as piggies love to play and forage in it 🙂 But if you do choose to use hay bags, I doubt they’ll eat the tiny strands and if they do, it’ll only be a very small amount so they should be absolutely fine but you could use a wire / rubber brush to try and remove the strands? x

I doubt they would attempt to get the hay out of the corners or off the Velcro.
