As we are starting to head into colder weather (boo hiss) I thought I would look into buying a larger amount of hay to make it cheaper than pet shop bought bags so that its not so expensive to keep Toby and Barney warm.

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any hay bale suppliers in my area?

I want to do the same but I'm finding it hard to source in my area too. I live in Wednesbury near Walsall in the West Midlands. I found one place but it was too far away. Plus I only have transport sporadically which doesn't help. If anyone locally knows of somewhere and could maybe collect one for me and deliver it I would pay the cost of fuel quite gladly. I'd also pay for the hay of course! I'm still laid up after my leg op and a bale of hay isn't exactly something you can bring on a bus lol. Even information where I could get one and I can ask my neighbour if he would take me. Anything please?

I get mine from a woman who keeps a horse & pony & does lovely bales of hay for just £4. It's just north of Northallerton so about 35 miles from you. I currently use a bale of hay for 9 piggies & it's lasting about 7 weeks. If you want the contact details please pm me & I'll get back to you.

I did a quick search & came up with this, near Barnard Castle:- http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/list/2154/pets.html?keyword=hay for sale durham

You could also ask at your local farm store, they often either sell it or know who does.

That's great - thanks stewybus. Will have a look around for local farm stores so see if I can find somewhere a bit closer than north allerton, otherwise I will pm you for your lady's details

I don't know if you have a Farmway, Millbry or West Cumberland Farmers near you.

My riding stables produces their own hay, and sells it for about £3 a bale, maybe contact a local riding stables and see if they could sell you a bale? And then ask your neighbour to pick it up for you. Most people have a stables not too far away.
