Hi I recently moved my guinea pugs to hay racks instead of a pile on the floor. I did this to save money and to make there cage look nicer. The piggies are at it all the time and seem to get it fine. But it doesn’t look like it’s going down! Should I put a pile of hay in or is this norm? I want the best for my piggy’s.

It may be that the hay simply isn’t falling down so it could simply be deceptive.

You will have to monitor their weights and see what happens to see if they are actually eating as much as normal. They may look to be getting it ok but it could be harder work for them to get out as much as they normally would eat.

When I used hay racks, I found my two just pulled it all out onto the floor and ate it from the floor anyway. I therefore stopped using racks as they eat much more hay if they are able to lay in it and eat at the same time!
