I've been buying Haybox hay for the girls and they love as it's always been good quality, lovely and green and smells lovely when you open the box. When lockdown started they were sold out so I ordered from a different company and I must admit that the hay was lovely quality the only thing I didn't like was it come in a big sack which I found harder to store than the boxes so I d chided to go back to Haybox. My delivery came today and am I really disappointed there's no lovely smell to it and it just looks really dry and brown and not green at all. Has anyone else had any problems or have I just had a bad batch?

The lighting isn't very good to really show, the hay on the lid is from the other company just for a bit of comparison on the colour.

The first box of timothy hay I had from them a few months ago wasn't very good, the piggies wouldn't eat it. When I opened the second box it was completely different and they couldn't get enough. I've had two or three orders since the and all have been good. I was thinking of adding meadow hay to my subscription when the brand I have at the moment runs out, the last lot of which wasn't very good. This is the problem with buying on line hay when you can't see the quality, depending on growing conditions hay can be very hit and miss.

This is supposed to be meadow hay 🙁 I feel bad feeding it to them

Our last couple of boxes of Haybox meadow hay have looked and smelled a bit disappointing to me, but the piggies have still preferred it to the Pillow Wad meadow hay which looks and smells much nicer in my opinion! The Haybox timothy still seems nice and green though. I usually buy both and fill up everywhere with the meadow hay after a cage clean then feed the timothy after their veggies.
I guess at this time of year its really the very end of last year's crop though so it will be a bit dry and brown?

One box of meadow hay that arrived the other day (I ordered 2 boxes) is not as green as my previous order but it wasn't brown like that in your photos. I give meadow hay to my piggies that they sleep, poo and pee on, so it doesn't really bother me that much. They still have the Oxbow Orchard and Timothy hay in the racks to munch on.

I've been buying meadow hay from Nature's own who do a standard one and a slightly more expensive green one. Mine prefer the non green hay, I throw away far more of the green.

They are fussy little things they don't seem to be too keen on Timothy hair but they love the meadow, orchard and oat hay.

I have had a couple of not so great batches from them in the few months that I have ordered from them. I now only buy their Timothy hay and order orchard grass from
Timothyhay.co.uk as the meadow hay alternative to put in their litter trays which they love! I think it comes in a 7kg or 9kg sack/bag but I have recently purchased some plastic laundry bins that I put the hay into.

My last batch wasn’t as green and lush as other ones, but as it’s a natural product I accept that it varies according to when it’s been cut etc. The piggies still chose it over a bag I had from Jolleyes.

Hmmm! I'm due a 3 box order this month from Haybox . Looking at your comments, think I might postpone it till next month in the hope it will be a better batch. I still have a box just opened from the March delivery which would keep us going till then.

The last box I opened is great, the box before not so much, to me, but the pigs still loved it!
It’s a natural product at the end of the day and quality will vary from cut to cut, field to field as well as box to box! As long as it’s not damp or mouldy, and the pigs eat it, I’m happy!

I’ve always found that it really depends on the season - hay is cut from give or take May onwards in the UK (I’m no expert) so hay bought around March is really end of the line from last year’s hay but I found it tends to affect all suppliers unless it’s shipped in from abroad perhaps

My last order of 3 boxes had been a bit disappointing too. Definitely not as green and sweet smelling as previous orders and the piggies are not as keen. I’ve got one unopened box and if it’s the same I’m going to cancel my next order and try somewhere else, have been told there’s a nearby animal feeds store that also sells hay which will no doubt be a good bit cheaper too. Such a shame as our first few orders were great
