Hello lovely people!

Oh man, I think I'm the hay snob! 🙈

I've received my hay from Haybox which usually my guinea pigs love and so do I but this time it seems quite "stalky"?! There's not a lot of actual blades of grass the pigs like.

I feel like they're just pushing it around looking for the best bits. I'll probably have to move my subscription forward as I'm replacing it so much quicker!

Hope you're having a good evening,

Portia x

I found this particularly with our box before last, I switched them to the 50/50 this time and they love the meadow hay so I am just ordering them that going forward as they eat all of it!
I am guessing it’s to do with the time of year.

the timothy is this years batch, that is usually stalky.mine rumage for the seed heads and leave the rest, but this hay is very green and as good as any american timothy hay.Timothy hay co .uk do a second cutting scottish grown hay which is soft and loved by my piggies.so could maybe be an alternative supply if its timothy hay you are after !

If that is the Timothy then it can be stalky. My Timothy hay from them has always looked like that - sometimes softer than others, but always stalky bits in it.
ive had meadow and Timothy from them for over a year now, but last winters batches of meadow hay was not the usual soft hay but instead was quite dry and rough

It does seems particularly stalky this time. But my piggies seem to quite like it. I switched to a 5kg Timothy only order this month as they weren't really eating the meadow hay so that was ending up as an expensive bedding.

Yes our timothy from Haybox seems quite stalky this time but the piggies seem fine with it, I am hoping all those stalky stalks will be good for Blodwen's teethies as her back teeth were growing a little uneven at her last vet check after a URI... mine get the 50/50 from Haybox so they get meadow hay all the time with timothy added after meals just for the after dinner hay eating ritual party :)
