He has made it through a week, he has not died of his ill treatment, and with the education I have received here I have not killed him with my inexperience, and he is growing, so he has a name!
I have named him "Redemption," as I have suggested before, as he was redeemed from a type of hell with a ransom amount of five dollars. I think I will be casually calling him "Red" or "Reddy."
I will post a "pigture" (I learned that word here, it is cute so I think I will use it) later today or early tomorrow; I must run out now.

I have moved him to an even larger cage; I have an extra large dog cage, large enough for a 100-pound dog, about 42 inches by 32 inches (106 cm x 81 cm) and I set up the bottom of it for Red, complete with pigloo. He does not seem to enjoy the extra room, though. Therefore, I have kept his dog carrier at hand, ready to move him into it.

He was not eating when I moved him to the larger area, but as soon as I put his pellet dispenser (a hopper, really) inside, he started digging through that and eating.

BTW, what is "popcorning"? I think Red may be doing that.

Great - I love his name :) I was just thinking about you guys earlier today and thinking today was name day :)

See this thread where someone else asked about popcorning too :

Must admit it was new to me too when I got my pigs at first ... kind of looks like they are having some kind of fit :))

Looking forward to the pigtures :))

Keep it up Red :) It's so great to hear he is growing! x) Popcorning is when guinea pigs jump and run around really quickly in happiness. You can find a bunch of videos of that on youtube. xx

Good name ofr a special piggy! I am sure that he will come to appreciate the extra space in time - he is just wary of being moved out of the first good place he's ever known... Give him time to settle.

If he is popcorning, that is excellent - it means that he is happy and that he has also extra energy!

Hello Red. :)p

I'm so pleased that our boy is gaining strength and being happy. Great work. If his new cage has a wire top (so seems open to him), perhaps lay a towel across the top so that it feels safer to explore and relax. I do this with my foster pigs to help them settle in to a new space.

You have done a wonderful thing and sound like a great piggy mummy, so much so, and with so much space I think Red needs a friend.....:))

I love his name and it's wonderful that he is popcorning, he's one happy piggy.

So happy to hear he is doing so well. It's normal for piggies to be nervous over new spaces, especially when so young and alone. If he's popcorning though, then you definitely know he's happy with his space and the food, no doubt! I have a couple of pigs that celebrate food every single time they get fresh hay or pellets.

Popcorning is wonderful to see. My little tiny Mina popcorned out on the grass today to show she was happy - and tried to eat it at the same time! Some confusion there!

I am incredibly pleased Redemption has survived his first week of comfort and care with you, he should go from strength to strength now. I have been reading the threads you have been putting up avidly. 'Hello' to Red from my girls. This is his proper naming day and they have said they will celebrate with celery and carrot (provided by the slave) in honour of Red. Go Red!

Vielen dank

Wonderful idea; I will do that straightaway. The cage is made for a very large dog, so the height from the base is about the height of 12 adult gp's stacked on top of each other. It is a wire top; the entire thing is wire. I can understand how it might feel too much open for Red, as small as he is. Thank you so much for this insight.

We are grateful for the celebration. But your msg leaves me somewhat concerned - am I now to be considered a slave? Alas! ;)

I was seriously just thinking about this little guy and wondering what his name was. I just knew that he would make it I think the two of you are going to have a wonderful bond :) Can't wait to see more picture updates of Red. x)

Congrats to Red on his lovely new name! It sounds like he is settling in very well. And yes, pigs are very capable of twisting you around their paws, so you are now dubbed a slave!

Piggies are our masters, whee are the slaves x)

WELCOME RED XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Pat when you originally said Redemption, i knew why you wanted to call him this........but i did mention calling him Red, i just thought it so suited him x)x)x)x)

Yes, we are all piggy slaves.
Perhaps there should be a ceremony where I get down on one knee and have the piggy queen tap me on each shoulder with a long blade of hay?

Yes, you did, and yes, it does! I also call him Reddy when I talk to him privately, also "gimme pig" and "stweeker". But his official nickname henceforth is "Red", courtesy of Glynis. (who woulda thought a week ago that I would be talking baby talk to a guinea pig?!?)
