Hi there. I have 3 female guinea pigs. One looked a bit "off" on the 23rd, then on Christmas eve she developed a severe head tilt. I took her straight to the vets and she said that her pupils are non-responsive, which suggests it's not an ear infection. Is this right? She said it's likely to be a brain issue. We're treating for an infection (baytril twice daily and metacam once daily), but she said it may be a tumour.
There's not really been any improvement since. I'm having to syringe feed Recovery Plus into her because she can't/won't eat. She ate some celery last night, but that's all I've seen her eat. She can't really move. She just stays where you put her. I don't know what to do for the best. I was leaning towards having her put to sleep, but when she ate the celery I got optimistic and cancelled the appointment. Now she looks worse again.
Does anybody have any experience they can share? My vet didn't seem overly knowledgeable on guineas.
Thank you very much.
PS, she's about 3 years old, but she's a rescue and I don't know how confident they were with her age when I rehomed her, so she may be older/younger. I've had her for about 2 years.
