My little lady went to the vet yesterday as she has a tiny cyst on her side which seems to have appeared quite quickly... So we trundled off to the vets only to find that the little cyst was nothing at all to worry about but on examination by the vet he is sure she has a large ovarian cyst :'(

She is well in herself, feisty as ever, biting my shoes while I'm cleaning out her cage and running around happily. She is eating well too. The vet has said its best just to keep an eye on her and if she starts having any problems, lack of appetite, condition or energy levels then he would possibly think about getting her spayed.

Was just wondering if any of you have piggies with this problem?

Please send my little pumpkin some healing vibes. Thanks for reading x

Aww the poor baby, sending healing vibes and lots of wheeky kisses from my boys x

Hope she gets better soon

The options are
Drain them with a needle
Hormone treatment
Spay her while she is fine
and Spay her when she gets poorly

My vet wasn't happy with the hormones. She has experience with them and we decided they were not the best for Rosie. We decided Rosies best chance of a long and happy future was to be spayed while she was well, before she was in a more risky condition. Unfortunately Rosie didn't make it but she is the only pig my vet has ever lost under anaesthetic in six years. You should discuss all options with your vet and have a scan to confirm cuz you might be worrying over nothing. If your vet doesn't know about the hormones, perhaps you need a second opinion.

BTW how old is she?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about little Rosie. Wendy is 4 and a half. She's very well in herself and I'd really worry about putting her through anaesthetic as she has been poorly before (water infection when she was 1yr old) and seems overly sensitive to medication. What's the hormone treatment? Would there be side effects to consider?
Thank you for the reply.

sending vibes for Wendy x our Suzy had this but she was losing hair due to having this ovian cyst, so the vet advised on getting her spayed, so we did and now she has a bf :)

The hormone treatments might be best for your girl or not. Every case is different. You should go talk to the vet and if they are clueless, talk to a different one. Rosie had an ultrasound scan not an xray to confirm the cysts. Did your vet not suggest either of these to confirm the cysts. If it is so large that the vet can tell they are big through the skin then something should really be done about it.
