All 5 of my piggies had upset tummies on Friday. No idea why - but as 5 in 2 cages were affected it must have been something they ate. Adopted all usual steps and precautions. Veg, pellets and hay all binned. Cages disinfected. All fed only hay, more hay and a few pellets with critical care top ups. Yesterday things were looking better, although when I got home from the meet there was still some fresh true diarrhoea in Violet, Poppy and Holly's cage. Identified the culprit was little Holly, so I've been syringe feeding her critical care and ProC through the night. By 6 this morning things looked a little better but when I came down after a few hours sleep this morning she was shrieking in pain, arching and passing mucus. All others look fine.
Decided not to force more CC into her in case it was a blockage. And made the trip to the emergency vets. Poor thing was passing blood in mucus by the time we arrived. She's got a form of colitis. She's been given injected pain relief, gastro protection and is on Septrin. I've been warned she's very poorly, but as she's young there is some hope she may recover. I decided not to have her admitted but to do the intensive nursing at home and to get her to my specialist vets tomorrow if she makes it through the night.
