I've seen many different weight ranges that are classed as healthy for boars however I weighed Badger today (he's about 9-10 months) and he's 1.3Kg! Boris is 1.25Kg and fully grown, but Badger is petite looking, is he too large? Time for a diet?

Depends on his size is he long? Does he have a bigger head? I have a boy who I think is too thin and hes 1050gms but is a big boy. I also had a small boy george who weighed around 1.2 and he wasnt fat

I think you can start slowly reducing the amount of pellets you are feeding, especially if he has been on unlimited pellets until now. Adult piggies need about half to a handful (10-20g) per day. If he is overweight, that will regulate itself. Guinea pigs have a very quick metabolism and if he has plenty of exercise, he will be OK.

He doesn't look very large next to Boris (who I've always seen as chunky) but he has no belly either! He is quite long when he stretches though, maybe he's big boned ;)

Will do, thanks :) He's quite the runner so hopefully if he is a bit chunky the weight should fall off :)

My Enoch is 18 months old and he is weighing in at 1163g but he is a petite boy and smaller than two of my sows but bigger than one of my other sows.

I wish there was one standard weight - it would make it all so much easier!

Don't we all! I have had boars ranging from around 900g (Dinky Donald) to Angus at 1180, Hamish at around 1200g, Struan is around 1250 at them moment but he is usually a bit lighter, and the newly arrived and currently named Hercules who is a massive pig at a hefty 1500g but he's big all over!

As a teenager we had piggies (we never weighed them as we weren't aware it was good to do so) and had one massive lad and two skinny minnies. There's just so much variation!

Wow 1500g! I suspect Badger will get around that. He's so active and skinny looking that even at 1300g he doesn't look overweight! Or even fully grown - he's going to be a monster!

Boys vary some are small and some are larger. If he doesn't look fat or out of proportion then its more then likely he isn't, he is just a bigger piggy. My smallest adult is 950g and my heaviest is 1600g

He looks healthy enough, so I won't worry too much :P

Took all seven of mine to the vets for a check over the other day - vet went.. 1.4 ,1.4,1.4,1.4,1.4, gosh! 1.4 seems to be the number of the day here - came to piggies 6 and 7 and went 1.2 & 2 -
