Hi guys, my name is Evelyn 🥰 and I’ve been a guinea pig owner for four months and surprisingly I’ve learned a lot about guinea pigs and one thing I know is that they are not easy to maintain and I’ve actually spent a lot of money on them😂 one of them is their cage and I just wanted to know if fleece is better than paper bedding. I spot clean the paper bedding four times a day. and it still gets pretty messy. I’ve been thinking about Fleece but I just don’t know where to start…and any suggestions ?

Whether fleece is better than disposable bedding - it depends on your perspective and personal preference! You can only try and see which one you prefer!

My piggies live in my shed and due to that I use a disposable bedding but occasionally use fleece in summer in their shed but mostly when they have to come indoors in summer due to the heat outside.
Do I personally think fleece is better? No, I cant bear the additional washing!
But there are many who dont have the means to dispose of large amounts of disposable bedding so fleece is better for them.

It also depends on the sex of your piggies (boys can be messier and smellier then girls), size of cage, how good the absorbent layer under the fleece and the type of disposable bedding you use. I find some disposables are worse than others.

I don’t have experience of paper bedding and instead I use a shavings type of bedding (it’s more wood chips than shavings).
I spot clean my four piggies (I have four boys - a pair and two singles) twice a day and that is all that is needed, along with a full clean once a week.

With fleece, you will still need to spot clean it a few times a day and on top of that it can need to have a full change every 3-5 days (again, depends on certain factors).

As above, it's personal preference. I am a fan of fleece. I use waterproof cage fleece topped with bobble bath mats and/ or pee pads. If you decide to try fleece you need to be aware that the cheap options are not efficient but in my opinion it's worth the outlay as it is offset by what you don't have to spend every week.
Most of us fleece fans tend to use several small fleeces instead of one cage sized one for various reasons, one of which is (in my opinion) that the smaller ones wash and dry better.
What are your piggies called and are they boys or girls. We love pictures of you have any.

I use both fleece and paper bedding for my 3 boys, Finn, Bear and Ben. You can try both and see which you prefer. I still use everything including puppy pee pads as it is easier to clean. I can just throw away puppy pee pads that goes under the paper bedding and fleece.

My two boys used to live in my garage on wood shavings and newspapers.

They now live in the house on fleece liners and pee pads and I can honestly say I love it. I find it so easy to keep clean. They don’t smell and it’s prettier. 🤣. I have to do three lots of washing a week so it’s manageable.

Obviously you would have to pay out for liners and pee pads. I use bobble bath mats as pee pads. I tip the poops off of them twice a day and then change them every 2 days. The main liner I replace weekly. The hay area has an old newspaper, then the liner, then a bobble mat then hay on top. They pee mainly there while they are eating hay.

I use a newspaper base, then the big part hay and the bedroom area is fleece and their tunnels/cuddle cups
