Hello from Valencia (and a doubt regarding spinach)

Hi there!

It's a pleasure to be part of the community. My name is Barnaby, I'm originally from Hastings, East Sussex, but l live in a town south of Valencia. Since April I have been the proud swineherd of Strudel and Walnut, two beautiful little sows who brighten my every moment at home. I've always been fond of guinea pigs, but nothing could have prepared me for how sweet, adorable, and oftentimes amusing they would prove to be!

While Strudel, Walnut and l have you, can l ask if anyone can corroborate that spinach is unhealthy due to the calcium quantity? My pigs love it more than anything else (they normally take a good few hours to hoover up other veggies, but the spinach doesn't touch the sides), and I'd hate to deprive them.

Yes spinach is a high calcium veggie. They can have it but it isn’t suitable to be fed regularly/daily nor in large amounts - a leaf or two each and given once a week is fine.
However when it comes to the calcium balance in the diet there are variations. Most calcium comes into the diet via pellets and water (and of course some places the water is harder than others) so filtering water and ensuring pellets are kept limited helps.
I don’t feed mine pellets so I do give high calcium veggies twice a week, still in small quantities but no pellets give me leeway to make tweaks

Hi Merab!

Here are a few photos we've taken of Strudel and Walnut during "table time", when we play with them (and soborn them wlth snacks) to help socialise them.

My absolute favourite thing they do is when they start squealing with excitement whenever they hear the fridge open; can anyone else confirm that they've managed to "Pavlov" their pigs in this way?
