my piggie tripped and her toe is bleeding. I'm so scared. I don't know if it's her nail or her foot. I've heard that there is a vain in there? Please help

Has the nail snapped? The vain there is the one on the nail - the Quick.

How did she trip? Is she walking okay?

Once the bleeding had stopped clean it gently with a saline solution. Saline solution can be made by boiling some water in a kettle adding a teaspoon of salt to a cup of this water and letting it cool.

Vet check tomorrow if it isn't the nail.

she is eating and walking. I have no idea how she tripped it was so fast. If it's the vein is this bad?

No, the vein is in the nail. They can often be nicked when cutting claws. The bleeding should stop soon.

Does the nail look like it has broken off?

I cant tell because she is not facing my way. If it is the nail do I need a vet?

No, the nail will stop bleeding. Had it stopped yet?

There is a vein running through the nail (called the quick of the nail- you can see it on white-footed pigs with clear nails.) It can bleed heavily if it is torn, but won't harm your piggie. You can apply gentle pressure to attempt to stop bleeding faster, and can rinse with sterile saline and can put the tip of the nail in flour to help it clot. Once the bleeding stops, just keep an eye on the toe to make sure there is no infection brewing and keep the cage clean to minimize bacteria in contact with the foot. If it's any consolation, one of my pigs once ripped a nail off completely where it met her foot- bled like crazy, but healed up without incident and the nail ended up growing back completely normally eventually.
