HELP blood in urine

Sounds like it may be pain - straining to pee, fluffed/hunched up, not eating. All seem to be common symptoms of pain. The difficulty is knowing exactly what is causing the pain - you can treat the symptom, but the cause does need seeking out too. Since a urinary infection has been a problem, I would think about talking to your vet about trying Septrin (usually a better antibiotic for UTIs) and/or checking for stones is a sensible step.

Charlie was actually diagnosed with his kidney tumour because of a urinary infection. I suspected stones due to the blood and crystals in the urine; that xray came back clear in the bladder but showed the large mass attached to his kidney. We always wondered if - and to what degree, if so - the impaired function of the kidney affected the urinary system. The vet felt it would make him more prone to these infections, though quite how I'm not entirely sure.

I forgot to say that we finished baytril about 5 days ago and it was plain sailing until this morning. He even had supper last night, slept in his hay and drank as usual (which is a lot). Today had been a complete nil by mouth on a voluntary level. I've just given him another 5ml dose of CC but he's wriggly...

He's now back in his house as before. i'm going to call the vet now but I am very anguished as to what they might say...

As he finished the Baytril 5 days ago, it's very unlikely to be intolerance of the meds. Possible that the infection has simply returned. Depending on his condition otherwise (please, you know him best), try to hold out against euthanasia unless something serious is discovered. Many vets will give up far too easily, often with problems that can be managed or cured. With Bertie's recent history, hopefully the vet will look at treating the problem as well as looking as his overall condition.

Sorry to hear that Bertie is feeling unwell again. I have to agree with Laura that Septrin is a better antibiotic for UTI's and is gentler on their tummies. I really think that you should push for Septrin and give that a go. I am convinced that some of Connie's problems is due to the fact that the Bayril only got rid of the surface of Connie's infection which meant it kept coming back xx

CCC4, no possibility to consider PTS as Maxy is away. I've taken him out in the garden and he seemed happy with the fresh air but nothing passed his lips... :(

vet said there's nothing wrong unless it's connected to his lump which we don't want to investigate by way of surgery.
She suggested more baytril which I turned down and she'll try to get me septrin for Monday as well as a new batch of Biolapis.
He's finally eaten a bit tonight :), especially vetbed (furiously like the thing has offended him) and has drunk unsolicited too. He had yet more CC and I gave him some water with salt and sugar which seemed to trigger his appetite and thirst too. I really want to get him of the syringing because he becomes very agitated and distressed each time i have to pin him down to feed him or water him.:(

Thanks for your kind words. :)

Will give an update in the morning. I have o get some sleep, I'm a fatigued wreck at the mo...:(

Pleased to hear that Bertie has eaten something and pleased that your vet is going to try and get Septrin. I wish it was available at all vets. Like you, I had to wait for my vets to order it in.
Now go and get your head down and try and get a good nights sleep x

zzzwon't have a good night's sleep as will have to get up 2 or 3 times for the toilet... but I'm slowly getting used to it. On the :)plus side, being a teacher means I'm on holiday so I don't have to do any work tomorrow and all the house work is done as we were set to go away, so it should be a fairly relaxing day...8;)

I hope/assume that the sugar/salt solution was made to correct formula. Apologies if it was.

i only put a tiny bit of each and only gave 5 ml, half of which went down my sleeve... Please do remind me of the correct proportions so I know for next time.

Much better to get some Dioralyte from the chemist or own brand from the supermarket.
Make up a quarter packet to a quarter of the water quantity, otherwise you will end up drinking it yourself to avoid waste.!

we got some of Boots' own. although it's fruity flavoured, Bertie's not quite interested but he drinks it on the syringe more easily than the critical care...:)>>>

Generally speaking Bertie is half fed and half syringed. He seems to be liking hay more than anything else and spinach but only a couple leaves at a time. He does drink on his own but nothing compared to even Friday when I could barely hear the telly he was making so much racket with the nozzle.@)

He does sleep a lot and chews his vetbed a lot. he's still pooing and peeing although his stools are quite small now. He was chewing on some of Finlay's earlier (which are huge) and I hope this is a sign that his body is still fighting.?/

On the other hand Finlay just eats everything in the cage and I fear he might go POP in the middle of the night of something... he's also got lots of energy but if we put him in the run on his own he just wheeks for Bertie and if we put Bertie in, he'll just annoy him because he won't play along... What can we do to amuse the little monster?:{

Any more advice for Bertie is always welcome. Good vibes and cuddles are too. :)

I have no more advice for you and Bertie sorry. I send healing vibes to little bertie :)

Bertie's picked up a bit. Keep your good vibes coming, it's obviously working....:)

how's Bertie today love?
Sending him more loves and healing wheeeeeeeeeks for such a cute little man xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
HUGE HUGS for you too love, you must be exhausted xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Bertie's still here... down to 880g and stabilised at that for 2 days. He's completely gone off his fresh veggies but quite enjoys munching on FRESH hay. He's also getting more and more distressed each time we have to syringe him. It's not like I can give him a treat afterwards because he doesn't really eat anyway. Maxy and I are quite upset by this situation and are still hopeful a recovery may be on the cards, Bertie is a fighter, many piggies would have given up a long time ago.
