Darcy was acting all normal squeaking for her veg then all of a sudden after giving her a pepper she started having laboured breathing staggering around the cage she is really struggling to move and I don't know what to do as I don't want to lose another pig do you think she has a pepper lodged in her throats and if so will she be able to get it out?

I would get her to an emergency vet asap, she may be choking! Usually if you call your regular vet out of hours they will provide you with an emergency number.
Good luck x

Please see a vet asap in case she has something stuck down her throat!

the closest emergency vet is very far away from me the earliest I will be able to get her to a vet is first thing in the morning but I am not sure she is going to make it as she is rolling around in her cage I'm not sure if she has had a very attack I just really don't want to lose her

Can you have a look in her mouth to see whether there is anything stuck? In this state, she is unfortunately not going to last until morning.

I can't see anything lodged in her throat

She is still taking food from my hand so I guess that is a good sign?

Okay so after a giant cough she seems to be acting completely normal eating her hay and veg however her breathing is still laboured but is it possible she has dislodged it from her throat?

No idea as we can't diagnose anything, I really would get her to the vets even if it's out of hours. If her breathing is still laboured then it's best to get it checked rather than risk anything happening over night.

Hope she's okay!

The earliest I am able to get her to the vets is 7 I'm going to keep an eye on her all night but as long as she continues eating and moving around I will get her to the vets at 7 unfortunately I am in anle to drive due to medical reasons however I am able to get a lift in the morning

Thankyou she seems to have improved a bit so few beers crossed she will be fine to go to the vets in the morning. What ever was choking her is no longer cause her to stumble around however her breathing is still slightly laboured. She just ate a bit of apple she has left a lot of her veg but that's not uncommon as she would much rather eat hay. She seems to keep having good spells and then all of a sudden it will become really noisy again. If she has got something stuck in her throats how will the vet go about getting it out? Has anyone experienced this before? Also I'm almost 100% it's not anything like an upper respiratory infection as she is not lethargic, she said still eating and there is no discharge from her eyes or nose it all started with one big cough.

Sorry hay was supposed to say fingers not few beers

When my Guinea pig had something stuck in her throat I got a syringe full of water and squirted it in her mouth and then she was fine.

Be careful of squirting the water in the mouth as it may go into the piggies lungs. Just make sure you point the syringe towards the side of the mouth :)

Yea I made sure not to squirt In the middle and I didn't squirt to much her mouth. , I looked it up before I did it.
