Help! Fur Mites

I've bought my guinea pigs yesterday 2 of them today I've noticed these weird things in their hair they don't come off with nit comb they don't move either and there's thousands of these greyish things in their hair I'm worried now people telling me there fleas and very paranoid as I got 2 kids and can't afford to get house cleaned free from fleas what do I do and does anyone know what they are

Please have your guinea pig seen by a vet for fur/hay mites. My vet treats them with stronghold; and that has done the trick when a new piggy arrived here covered in them. You need to have both of them treated.

You can reclaim the vet cost from the pet shop when you present the vet bill together with with the sales receipt. You can also complain to your local council about selling guinea pigs covered in parasites.

Hay mites usually come in hay, what you can see is actually the egg cases that are fixt to the hairs at the bum end. They are more obvious in light coloured guinea pigs. The mites themselves are near invisible and life off the detritus on skin and bum. They are the mildest of the skin parasites that guinea pigs can have. That doesn't mean that some strains can be rather hard to get rid of. Hence my recommendation of the product used by my vet.
