Morning, quick questions how do you encourage your piggies to eat pellets! The breeder used a muesli mix, but I have burgess for them as always used this in the past! The little so and sos are being very selective eating what they like out of the muesli, leaving pellets! I have mixed to introduce to them but running out of the changeover bag now, I know if they only have pellets they will have to eat them but don’t want to upset their tummies! Any suggestions? Also for info they have: mixed veg daily (love this) they have bran mash (they love this) and then a dish of food, and unlimited hay. Any routine or taking bits away at times to encourage eating pellets! I think they may have too much choice! Thank you xx

I can’t help you, I have two fussy boys. They won’t eat pellets at the moment or muesli apart from pulling out the flat peas! I’ve tried every make of pellet and muesli over the years and it’s a waste of time, tried mixing up different types all to no avail, all they want is those flat peas? I give them a small amount and pellets, they just leave all the pellets!

Just give them pellets :) it's only grass and grain when you're looking at Burgess. They aren't as sensitive in that respect as other breeds, so will have to eat them if you don't give them the choice :)

Right I’ll bite the bullet and try tonight! I’m sure once they dig in they’ll enjoy! Thank you xx

I had a rescue piggie (Pedro) who was given supermarket crap piggie food. full of crap sweet and horrible I had wean him off it with better quality pellets.
He did not like it as he loved his sugar rush but little by little 2 months later he was ok.
Must admit was hard giving him food at the start knowing it was bad for him. x

With my 2 ladies who were super fatties when we adopted them that had been eating unlimited muesli and 8 carrots a day in a hamster cage for 2 years, I just switched them straight away- having been a bit shocked to meet piggies so fat their back feet didnt reach the floor I binned the muesli before we'd even got them in the car to bring them home and switched them to less than a spoonful of grain free pellets per day and gave them lots of hay and some lettuce. If piggies eat veggies and lots of hay then the pellets are not really important, at least in the short term... they will eat the healthy ones if they are hungry, even if they give you the evil piggy eye, and if they dont they will be fine with hay and veg until they get used to it!
