My two Guinea pigs have recently started burying under their fleece blanket that’s under their hay. I have one big liner that lays on the floor and then smaller liners I switch out that they have been getting under. The problem with this is that they pee on the bottom liner I’m trying to save, and then they have to be in the pee all week with their hay. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas bc they enjoy burying and prob won’t stop, but I also need to save their hay and keep their cage clean 😭

Naughty piggies.

Could you put a stool there to weight it down a bit?

I woiuld try using something else for their hay other than smaller fleece blankets - I can highly recommend big plastic garden potting trays for hay!

My pigs also have one big fleece liner for their main cage, along with a separate liner for their loft and another for their loft ramp. I only change the liners every five or six days, but they have one big potting tray at each end of their C&C, lined with wood pellet cat litter and then filled with hay. These are really easy to manage as they can just be lifted out and emptied/refilled and the wood pellet litter is also brilliant for keeping smells at bay.

Something like this one:

Of course the little horrors still like to spread some of their hay over the fleece liner but the majority of it is contained in the trays.

As above, any cat litter tray or storage box will do. If the side is too high just cut a doorway and smooth it off or cover with heavy duty tape.

Some pics of our cage are attached which should hopefully show what I mean. Our girls are particularly fond of the tray at the loft end of the hutch as it has a shelf at the back which creates an extra tunnel/zoomie running space behind the tray..

As you can see from the second pic they do like to spread the hay all over the fleece too, but it's manageable, and the trays are big enough for lots of burrowing and hiding!

Mine love to use their cuddle sack to hide in and that helps with burrowing behavior for my piggies. Another thing I have done is using Dollar Tree wire cabinet shelves. I tie fleece strips on them for my piggies to hide under. Here's a couple of pictures of them for reference.
