ive aquired a new guinea pig :), his (i hope and i think its a him) owners didnt want him and i said i would take him, he was free with a cage, when i went to collect him it was apparant that the poor mites cage hadnt been cleaned for at least a month, there was layers and layers of filthy sawdust. anyway after two days just settling in i let him on the grass with others about 1 hour ago, i know how males go on (i only have males), and they hump for want of a better word to show dominance, he has never been around other pigs and is about 1 and a half years old (or so I'm told), so i let this go on for a little while, well about 5 minutes, i dont think its very nice and he seems such a placid little thing, and horrible stuff is all over his back, iv tried to wash him but its solid, please dont say what i think this might be as i feel sick. ive tried to wash the poor thing and it wont come of, help, i used baby shampoo, is it what i think it is and what can i do and why did this happen,

HELP

I think that its what you think it is but don't quote me on that one. The other pig may have just got a bit too excited! x

thinking bout this now, my piggies got this years ago like 13 years whilst they lived with the rabbit. It unfortunately is manly stuff, is it in clumps not all over? you will just have to get it out, i used to cut it out. you may just have a frisky guinea pig I'm afraid.

its in one tight clunmp yes and a slight creamy colour? you cant get this out with shampoo or anything, you will have to cut this out i am afraid. shampoo is just pointless.

yeah,id say cut it out. you dont wanna touch that stuff for two long!

Yes this IS what you think it is and you will have to cut it out, it reminds me of pritt stick but worse! ahhh boys eh? Larry and Teddy do this to eachother, once it was right next to Teddy's eye :o

Lovely! Only ever had this with Twinkle and I cut it out! Yuk! :(|)

Oh yes, one of the pleasures of owning boars I'm afraid I put this treat about equal with pulling hay out of their bits:)):)):))

Ah, boar glue!

This thread made me laugh though... nice to have somewhere we can talk about stuff like this without people thinking we're mad!

Glad it's not just me that got a grin out of this

its jucky and for such small animals they have a heep of "but glue" but warm water and soap washes it off

its not as bad as people think, well i dont think so. i think alot of other things are worse than a dried bit of "stuff"!

Oh bless them, they have their plus sides! I love my boars. Definitely worth putting up with boar glue and greasy glands ...

Couldn't agree more Sophie! Boars are so affectionate, sweet, more upfront and friendly. We only keep boars and probably always will only keep boars, despite the occasional boar glue and fallouts!

If you are looking for shampoos www.gorgeousguineas.com do special shampoos for guineas and one especially for boars ;) Much better than the chemically loaded ones you can buy in pet shops!

i only have boars and always have, i dont think i would have females as boars are much friendlier.

each for themselves though!

I have one of each & I must say Smudgie the boar is far more friendlier than Coco. He's also much better looking & cheekier. Coco Is such a little lady she's much quieter & leaves all the begging for treats to Smudgie. I'm going to put them back in together on Thursday as its 4 weeks since Smudgie was castrated & I can't wait to see their antics when the they're reunited.

its horrible stuff - when i first saw Charlie had this on him, i felt sick too! but used baby wipes and managed to get it off, now one of my new ones has this on him, but is only coming off gradually - horrid stuff - dirty men.

I am sure that I have seen on the forum that baby wipes are good at getting it off. We get all the best jobs:(|)

Hmmm....piggy pritt stick!:)) Really, it's not that bad...at least it all stays together! It's only Garry and Dave who have been unfortunate to have gone through this trauma and I've resulted to trimming round it to remove it. Both short haired piggies, they look a bit tufty, but I'm sure they prefer this to the other option!
