i was reading on another website before i found this awesome site here. and i was just wondering if i should be concerned if my female guinea pig is in trouble she has what some call a crest like thing but she doesnt match the colors of a english or american crest guinea. any info would be great.

Thanks.

Very Respectfully Justin

Hi, welcome to the forum Justin.

I'm sure there is nothing to worry about, I think you can get crested piggies in any colour. Are you able to post a picture of your girl?

Oh yes, forgot about the time difference. Just post a picture when you can, but like I said before, I don't think you should be worried.

ok i was just wanting to make sure we bought one from a pet store and it was so small it wouldnt eat or drink and it died the same night we got it. the pet store gladly told us they made a mistake of giving us a sick pig so they gave us a new one which is sweet pea me and my wife have had her for 2 weeks now and she has finally learned her name and isnt skiddish anymore but the other one with the crest named lilly still has her baby fur we got her from petsmart she popcorns all over the place

Sounds like she is young but happy :) I can understand why you would be worried though. It must have been so sad to lose one so quickly.

I'll look forward to seeing pictures of sweet pea and lily.

Hi and welcome to the forum. As you can see below, Dindy has a mixed colour crest. It makes no difference to a Piggies health what colour the crest is.

Hi and welcome!

Please be aware that we are a rescue friendly forum and not a breeders' forum. Many pet piggies have mixed crests and are neither clearly English or American (you may call them "dual nationality" ).

i really dont know how to upload pictures to here

use a site like photo bucket upload ** photos there and then on here copy the IMG code and passed it on here and your done heh i really want to see a pic heh

Lovely guinea pigs. The one who died was probably too young to be away from its mother, and it probably got cold before you got it and couldn't get warm again. As the others have said, having a crest has nothing to do with the health. Look at my avatar and you can see the fluffy crest my guy has. Go to the health section and read the threads there, you will find lots of information as I did.

you are so gorgeous with your little crest!
navy hm welcome to the wonderful world of piggies! so sad to hear of you first experiences but things sound as if they are much better now, i have had dozens of piggies in my sanctuary [ a forever home] and they have been in all shapes colours and sizes everyone a beauty in their own way. colour of fur etc makes no difference to a piggys' health ,unless it looks dusty and there is no reason for it ie runnnig around on soil etc then it is possible it could be mite related as the mite shed grot onto the hosts coat BUT having said that your new friends should georgeous enjoy them, and they will give back love ten fold !

They're gorgeous! I've never had a crested piggy but they're really sweet. As everyone has told you everything is fine! I hope to hear more about your piggies!
