I've just come back after a weekend away, and my pigs have been able to chew through quite alot of the corners of the blue plastic mushroom containers that you get from supermarkets.

I use the containers to transport chopped veg from the fridge to the pigs, but my piggy carers seem to have got the wrong end of the stick, and must have put the containers into the piggy pens!

The pigs all seem totally fine but I'm obviously a bit worried. Has anyone's pigs done the same thing, and what effect did it have?

You will definately have to keep an eye on them. Luckily my piggies have never been able to get at such things so I don't have experience of it. Good luck with them :)

I have noticed that all my piggies have an obbsession with eating plastic - bags, folders, toys, doesn't matter as long as it is plastic! I often chase them off from it when they get to it, and they've always seemed fine.

However, do keep an eye on them as plastic stuck in the gut can cause Bloat - so keep an extra eye on them over the next few weeks as it may take longer to pass through.

Silly pigs. i wonder what the appeal of plastic is?

Oh mine have done this before and luckily have been fine. They're current fave chew at the moment is chewing through the bin bag when i clean them out...which i dont notice until i trail dirty litter everywhere!

Keep an eye on them, but hopefully they will be fine! If they should show any sign of bloat take them to the vet IMMEDIATELY.

My Dizzy has an obsession with any kind of plastic and an uncanny ability of finding it before me... Apart from looking a bit uncomfy for about 5 minutes, once, she hasn't had any problems - considering the amounts she's managed to snaffle over time!

Thanks for all the comments which have reassured me a bit, but I'll keep a close eye on them all. They all still seem OK, and just as demanding as ever for their food.

Pigs really are a bit silly aren't they?!

Aww glad they are ok! Now Cuthbert be a good boy! :(|) Sunshine ate part of a black bin bag and that is when I was in the room! Cheeky boy! You have to have eyes at the back of your head! :)

I'll go and tell him you said so! Unfortunately Cuthbert is likely to be the biggest culprit as he loves chewing! He's also the most laid back and slumps down in any old corner of the cage, which is fine usually but a bit alarming at the moment!

What's the fascination with plastic hey? Why would you want to chew on a bin bag?!
