Everyone's so helpful and have seen me through a few difficult moments... can anyone help by posting how they best use their pet grooming clippers for best results on scared guineas. I've just got amir pet grooming clippers that have reduced noise and am very new to all this... first things first ... do I use them as they are and just put my fingers between them and the clippers like you would scissor technique ... or is putting a comb attachment on and moving them along the hair a better bet while holding with other hand. Its a one woman job so only two hands I'm afraid. I will be using my scissors a little too but thought the clippers a quicker option than slowly trying to scissor away... one has really thick long hair and it took for ever. I'm just really scared of hurting them in any way but wondered if using the comb piece would drag the hair more or even worse poke them as the ends are quite pointed? Do you cut the way the fur grow's or other direction . Any successful clipper out there
I trim my long-haired piggy with little battery-powered clippers as they are very gentle and quiet. I get the hair between my first and second finger and then push the clippers down onto my 2nd finger to cut through it. Or sometimes I run the clipper along my fingers to cut through the hair, but they tend to clog more doing it that way. My little battery-powered clippers are not sharp and don't cut my finger. I find this is a good way of doing it as I know I'm not cutting the hair any shorter than a finger's width AND there's no way I can cut piggy as my fingers are basically in the way. AND I can use my free fingers and thumb to cup the rest of the piggy to hold her in place! She's pretty relaxed and is happy to be clipped. I do it probably about once every 6 weeks.
Just had a go... not sure re your other fingers and thumb but tried as you said and mine are new and see me to skim along my fingers quite well. She had loads of grass and seemed quite happy which was good as her hair is so thick it takes sooo long trying to snip it with scissors...got the odd kick but that''s normal. The other however wasn't as successful. .. she ran and I resorted back to scissors but her hairs quite thin so 1 out of 2 ain't bad!
