I have a guinea pig who lives by himself as he does not mix well with others. We usually have hugs off him quite regularly.... I got him out of his cage tonight and noticed he has a yellow patch on his bum and it’s quite crusty if that makes sense . And the fur around that is also matted to his skin kind of I can put a picture up if you need one. But I was wondering if anyone can help.
 
Yes do put a picture on, we can’t make a diagnosis, but it will obviously enable us to see what you see!
It’s possible that it is just dirty from urine and poop and his fur has got matted, or his grease gland has got a bit dirty.
A bum bath and a hair cut around his bottom may be all he needs but you should see a vet if you are concerned

Is that his bum or his genitals? Don’t pull at it. I’d say go to the vet. It may be an overactive grease gland but I’m not entirely sure about the location from your photo.

PS what do you mean he doesn’t mix well with others? What has happened when you’ve put him with other (single male) guides pigs? It’s about personality match. I’d strongly suggest finding a rescue near you where he can go boar dating and choose his own friend. As much as you interact with him, it’s not the same. And it’s never too late. Even living in cages next to each other is better than nothing.

With my boars, particularly with my white one, Winston, his grease spot showed up a few weeks after adopting him. When I would try to clean it, it wouldn’t work. But, everywhere I read says it’s normal for them. Because Winston is primarily white, the color isn’t *as* noticeable, I would think. If you’re concerned, take him to a vet!
 
i agree with siikibam. Can’t quite tell the location from the photo. I think I’d go to the vet rather than attempt to wash it off yourself

I also agree with siikibam about your piggy being alone. Very very few of them truly like being by themselves - it’s about finding the right friend, and if a boar friend is not an option due to over dominance, then maybe neutering and finding a sow for him.

Okay thank you. I have thought about neutering him but I’m worried about him going under anaesthetic.

It’s his bum. When he was with another male they would constantly fight the other that we have no longer got was cut and bleeding from their fights . So we put him with a family friend that also owns guinea pigs now he is okay. But bramble the next we have still got we are worried that it might start again .

their fights would be due to the fact that he wasn’t compatible with that particular guinea pig - guinea pigs have to like each other to be able to live together. If you find the right friend for him, he will be absolutely fine with another piggy. They really shouldn’t be kept alone.
 
:agr: Nothing to add except if there is a rescue that does boar dating near you then that’s the way to go.

Have you got him an appointment to be looked at? Make sure the vet is an exotic one and is knowledgable on guinea pigs.

Yes they said it’s most likely his glance and gave us this antibiotic to put in his bum while giving him a bum bath .
