Anne-Marie

i noticed yesterday that gizmo has a patch of fur just above the bum and it feels sort of sticky when i had a closer look at him the centre of the stickness seems a bit red i'm not really sure what it is or how to treat it.He let me touch it and he didn't squeal or fidget so i dont think it's hurtin him.Hes eating an drinking as normal too

I think thats his scent gland or something, ive heard swarfega removes the stickyness and then a bath,I'm gonna try that with mine this week as they have the same
hope I'm right anyway

It sounds like the grease gland to me. Boars need this cleaning if it gets sticky. With my boar this isn't very often & a mild Guinea shampoo does it. Have a search on here for Grease Glands.

Hope this helps

Defintely the grease gland. I usually give my boys a wipe when they have their baths or use a baby wipe :)

Thanks for that i was getting worried i'll run a search. Another stupid question how do i bath him?you can tell i'm new to all this :-[ and were do i buy swarfega?

You can get Swarfega in a local car shop sometime Tesco. And to bath them you can put them in a sink or bath with not too deep water and just make sure you don't get their faces wet or water in their ears. :)

How is a good way to clean it? Just with a napkin and water is okay?

you rub the swarfega in the grease gland only, then rinse off completley with running water or bath them keeping their faces well out of the water becasue water in the lungs can cause phnumonia, keep you hand under them or use an upturned bowl for them to stand on in the water and keep the water warm if using running water keep your hand under the water to check for tempreture fluctuations oh I use the orange smell swarfega

Do females have grease glands too? Is that what they use to mark their teritory? Because when i introduced wilson and cindy, cindy wiped her bottom on the floor a bit haha lol
