Help! sick guinea :(

I found 2 dead guinea this morning and I think the others might be ill as well..
I think that the gras might have gotten sour or something. Lookes like the stomach must have blown or something really waterish poop on one of the dead one and one of wich is left is missing out waterish poop :(:(:( what to do?
There is no vet here that knows about guineas and the store is lacking everything for guinea pigs even sometimes dont own food.. :(:(
Can I give them acidophilus? Would that help?
 
I'm so sorry to hear that your piggies have died and the remaining are ill, I hope someone comes along soon to offer advice, keeping everything crossed for you?

Can you give more info please - where do you live?

How old are the pigs, are they housed indoors/outdoors, what do you normally feed, anything new in the last 24 hours, how many pigs do you have, are they all living together, any other animals?

The more information you give the more help we can be.

sorry to hear about your loss:(

Have you fed any grass cuttings say from a lawnmower? or was it fresh grass?
 
I'm Icelandic so there for they are also indoors, normally i feed them gras (hey?) and guinea food.. But I put this gras in yesterday but its what I get from my moms but she owns horses.. The oldest is going to be 1 years old in november but the youngest (the girls) I bought in april/may? I had 4 so now there are only 2 left but its 2 boys and 2 girls and they are used to live together but the oldest and one of the girls are left :(
There are dogs here..

Ohh I see hay, I think the best thing would be to find out from your mum how the hay is stored and if it has been contaminated with anything that way you can rule that out.

I would get them to a vet anyway even if they don't specialise in guinea pigs to prevent anymore losses:(
 
I think I know more about guinea than the vet here does..
I'm gonna try the acidophilus and hope that it will help :/

Was this grass that you picked from a paddock where horses graze, or was it a bag of grass bought from a shop especially for horses?

If its picked from a paddock, it could be that the grass had been pee'd on by dogs or even the horses. I know that grass which has been pee'd on by dogs is not good for guineas, but I'm not sure about horse pee....anyone?
 
you need to make sure they are getting plenty of water, either on a spoon or syringe feed them - if you have anything for rehydrating after diahorrea in your house (for humans) this can help, we call it Dioralyte, you mix it up with water and it helps to retain fluids. Also lots of hay, meadow hay if you have it.
 
looks like 1 is fine normal poop, eats and drinks.. but the other doesnt eat, isnt drinking that much and he has a wet poop.. but other from that he looks fine, he walkes around and runs if I put my hand in there.. Ive tried pointing food at him, the drinking bottle and even put spoon next to his face but he doesnt even look at it :/
 
If one is still not eating you will need to syringe feed. Soak the guinea pig food for 10 minutes in hot water (if it's muesli type you will need to grind it up in a coffee grinder before you soak it). The food will them be soft enough to suck up into a 1ml syringe (cut the end off to make the hole bigger).

A pig that is not eating at all will need 120ml of food a day, so feed 20-30ml at a time, every 3-4 hours. Hopefully your pig will start to eat for themselves very quickly.

Until their poo is normal only feed hay and guinea pig food, no veggies. It's important to make sure they are drinking well. Give the probiotics and vit C for a few days after they are well again.

The hay must smell fresh, any mould or dampness will be bad for the pigs.

yesterday I just put acidophilus powder in a spoon mixed it with a water and gave him. At first he was just mostly sitting in a corner but still not in this cant move around, hanging head sick like 1 that died was when I found them.. :(
But later that day after I gave him the acidophilus he looked better moved around the cage and drank a little but I was still worried cuse he wasnt eating and it didnt look like he was drinking that much.. but other from that he looked pretty normal..
I gave him a little more acidophilus in a spoon last night (just a little didnt want to give him too much) and today he is eating and looks fine :D
 
its not an anti biotic, its a herbal product.

More like a pro biotic and is available on line or from health food shops. It helps to maintain a healthy gut flora.
