Hi, I live in the USA and my boar Bailey has static mites. They don't seem to bother him much but every time I hold him I get a horrible rash. Most vets out here say that almost all guinea pigs have them and they don't hurt them so they usually don't treat it unless the pig seems affected. I really want to rid him of these because I worry that they bother him and also I don't hold him as much due to the rash. The only remedy I've seen is a shampoo from gorgeous guineas and a topical treatment that some say doesn't work for non burrowing mites. The shampoo will be really hard for me to get living in the USA. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm really glad you've posted this as I have had similar problems. My boar has recently been treated by the vet for mites but a few days before he showed and problematic symptoms, I was itching like hell! If ever start itching again, I will look at this as an early warning sign.
Like you, I don't want my piggies to be suffering in any way.
