Hi,
Yesterday I had to put my lovely han Solo down out of nowhere he lost nearly 200g and was having seizures. The vet tried to flush out a suspected ear infection but he was just too sick to go on. Now, chewbacca has been wobbly in the past, been a skinny pig with a few health issues including uris, I'm worried he's gonna take the loss hard and get sick. As it's Christmas as well, rescues are closed until the 6th. What is everyone's recommendations for helping chewbacca not be lonely or get sick. I'm so sad
Thanks,
Sammie

I am no expert but when I have lost a guinea pig I make sure I have more interaction with the remaining one. I have also put in a soft toy so they can snuggle up to it. Normally a baby's soft toy is suitable as they have no parts that can be chewed off.
So sorry you lost Solo.

Okay that sounds like a cute thing to do. He's eating some veggies but only when you pass them him, he's had some water but he's just hiding in his house this morning. I'm actually heartbroken, this is the first pet I've lost and it's hit me hard

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Here is a thread about looking after a bereaved piggy. Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig
In the meantime, while rescues are, I agree, closed for general rehoming enquiries, they will all respond to an emergency. A bereaved piggy is classed as an emergency. Please do contact your local rescues to see if they have any possible matches for Chewie. But as it's Xmas I'd expect a bit of a delay in getting a response. I'm tagging @pig in the city in case she has any single males. I know the Potteries GPR doesn't have any singles at the moment, but it's worth also trying Walsall RSPCA.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. Take time to grieve x

I'm so sorry, it doesn't matter whether it's the first one to die, or the 20th it still hurts. You develop such a bond.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Sleep tight Hans Solo

So sorry to hear this. We do have one single male who is 3 years old. He has only been here a week but will be available for boar dating next weekend

Okay so as luck would have it in know someone who's had guinea pig babies. But my vet told me not to rush anything by getting chewwie a cage mate. What do you think? Waiting doesn't seem reasonable as a few times a week me and my partner will be out of the house at work for 12 hours. But chewwie seems okay, he's eating and drinking and sometimes even popcorning when we talk to him. But he is still hiding in his house quite a bit. What should I do? Thanks for your help!
