Rudi hasn't urinated in 24 hours that we know to. We have been syringe feeding him with recovery sachets, lectade and protexin for a week as he had spiky back teeth and an inflamed bladder. We have also been giving him 0.2ml of metacam since Friday although we didn't give him any yesterday as the vet thought it might be giving him an upset stomach as he was fighting us when we tried to feed him. He hasn't urinated on my lap when I've been feeding him for a few days. We popped him in a cage with no bedding to try and collect a urine sample yesterday and it's completely dry. He sort of twitches and strains like he wants to go but nothing happens. What do we do now? What should we ask the vet for? Please help as we really don't want to lose him 8...

Not urinating would suggest either dehydration of a potential blockage n the system - possibly stones in the urethra (leading from bladder to outside) or further up the system in the ureters.

This is obviously an emergency if he has gone 24 hours already without a wee (tell the receptionist that when you make an appointment) and he needs to get into the vets ASAP.

Dehydration can be dealt with by sub cutanteous or intraperitoneal administration of warmed fluids. An x ray should show if there are stones causing the blockage and possibly an ultrasound may then have to be done if it's not clear what/where the problem might be.

Good luck

x

He needs to be seen by a vet asap. It's either dehydration (did you syringe him water as well over the week or made sure that he was still drinking normally?) or it is a blockage in the ureter somewhere.

He's booked in at the vets - my mom and brother are taking him. We have been syringe feeding water as well and all the foods we have been giving him have been liquid too. He had an x-ray a couple of weeks ago due to bleeding and they didn't find any stones and the vet won't give him an anasthetic due to his weight. He was fairly lively yesterday so we think it may be a blockage as some of his poo's have been soft. I've never had a sick piggie before so I feel slightly useless

Sorry to hear Rudi is unwell. Good to see he is on his way to the vets, best thing I can recommend. The biggest concern I would have is if there is a blockage somewhere, it does need checking out, another x-ray would be good. (Stones can form within weeks.)

Oh dear, I'm so sorry, I really feel for you. Big hugs.

Rest well, sweet Rudi. xx

Aw, I'm so sorry for your loss :(. Sleep well little one.

Gone but never forgotten. Hugs to you, it is so difficult when they pass. xx

BIG HUG

It is always so devastating when you lose a piggy to illness despite trying your very best; you can't help but feel that there should have been more you could/should have done - even if there isn't! I know, I have been there as well! It's the other side of our love...

RIP Rudy

So sorry,You did everything you could have done, sometimes no matter how hard you try you can't keep them with you.
