I was reading a book "Diseases of Domestic Guinea Pigs" and their is a herbal supplement guide in the book...does anyone have any experience using herbs medicinally with guinea pigs? I have one piggy has a sort of bubbly sound and then coughs and it clears up for awhile....thought I might try herbal expectorant like chickweed or yarrow? Thanks in advance for your input!

Herbal supplements can never be a replacement for a trip to the vet and some proper medicine if your piggy is not well. Lots of herbal "medicines" are toxic and/or completely useless, they might make humans feel better via the placebo effect but its very easy to poison a small animal like a piggy unfortunately. What is the date of publication of the book and who is the author and publisher?

I use lots of herbal things here with mine, dried herbs, powders, creams etc but always alongside medication from the vet, especially for things like possible URI's, UTI's etc that can go south quickly. But you do need to run it by your vet also, some things can react badly to medications.

I would be wary about a book that is that old as well. Piggy care has come on a lot in more recent years and it's a fast changing area of knowledge. It's likely information in there would now be out of date
