I've ordered some of the four seasons anti parasitic wormer following an article about it on gorgeous guineas. I was just wondering if anyone on here uses it or has used it & what your thoughts are?
Thanks x

Do you have a link for this?

If it contains Cichorium intybus (common chicory flower), then it may be effective, as grazing on pasture that contains this plant has been shown in lambs to decrease intestinal worms. I don't know about other herbs.

Laura_CCC4, if this herbal wormer is administered monthly, would it be more effective at controlling the parasites that tattyruncy has had such a problem with (the silent killer)?

Thanks!

"I used it for a few months, but ended up switching to Ivomec and Panacur"

You poor thing, hope you are better.

Oh AP! I try so hard not to slip up as well...

J&G - that's the one to be used once every three months. 0.4ml Panacur, along with the 2 drops (approx. 0.1ml) Ivomec.

Furries - Theoretically yes, it would be more effective in situations where parasites 'infect' the pigs more regularly - indeed for any pig not feed on a quality-controlled hay (like Oxbow). Whether it is effective against the 'silent killer' I'm not sure. To my knowledge Ivomec deals with the majority of parasites, and I can't say which parasites will be eradicated with the use of the herbal solution. I believe the herbal wormer is effective, but whether it is effective against all the parasites guinea pigs get, I'm really not sure.

So its 0.4ml of the panacur solution, the sheep wormer?
Where would i get the ivomec from? I do use the xeno spot on does this relate to that as-well or do i need the ivomec separate? I'm confused with this worming stuff.mallethead

I've copied a PM I sent to Kim (Castaway) this morning, it was a reply to a pretty similar question - it lays it out clearly so will hopefully answer your questions!

The worming products are:

Panacur 2.5% sheep worming suspension
http://www.medicanimal.com/product/~...commendation=Y
The dose is 0.4ml once every 3 months.

Ivomec (or Ivomec Super) injection fluid - I believe 0.8% or 1% are both ok, I use the Ivomec Super which is 1%
http://www.medicanimal.com/product/~...product_id=532
The dose is 2 drops, or approx. 0.1ml, once every 3 months.

The best tip I have learnt for the Ivomec is to use a syringe to withdraw some Ivomec from the bottle, then pop it into one of these bottle and give two drops:

When you buy the Ivomec and Panacur you'll have to state what animals you've got, so you'll probably have to tell a white lie....I said I had a sheep called Charlotte, 2 years old, weighing 80kg. I did my research and crossed my fingers! There were no problems.

Both are given orally, as you know.

Thank you so much that has made it clear for me, as i dont want to be giving them the wrong things! Also what are the best before dates on them?

The links that you posted dont work. Glad that you told me about the little white lie i have to do otherwise i would have been baffled. :)

The Four Seasons wormer says its only for Dogs, Cats and Rabbits (and one for horses). Does it matter which one you get? And is it alright to give the same amount for a rabbit, to a guinea pig?

I stick with what Gorgeous Guineas said, which is 0.5ml once monthly - the dose you are pointing out. The one I linked to for cats/dogs/rabbits is the correct one.

Coolies! I'll get myself some of that then for when I get more piggies. I've never wormed but always thought I should. However *touch wood* I've never had a problem.
