I've had a look on shopping list sticky and sage and oregano are under dont know much about section, does anyone feed their piggies herbs? They are from my mums garden, she has loads?

My Guinea Pigs love fresh Coriander and Parsley. They also like the dried herbs you can buy from Pet Shops but not nearly as much as the fresh stuff!

Thanks for both your replies, I will have to try coriander! Ive washed the sage and oregano and put in a couple of leaves to see how it goes down. If all else the hutch smells gorgeous! x

Coriander/(US) cilantro is the one herb that can be fed daily.

All the other herbs should not be fed daily, but make a great addition to a piggy diet: parsley, dill, basil, fennel, mint, lemon balm. Marjoram/oregano can be fed, but I find that mine prefer to nibble rather to eat it, the same with sage, which is even stronger in essential oils.

I just had a look and they haven't even touched it! Was worth a try! Thanks for the info on herbs, mums garden has loads and we just started growing our own too.

Was just wondering how often you would feed your piggies herbs.

Mine will eat parsley, I only give them it once a month as a treat, they wolf it down. ;)

I feed mostly coriander, occasionally dill, parsley or basil if I get to the market, about once or twice a month. Herbs from the garden as available, but usually not more than twice a week.

Gave them some flat leaf parsley today and they loved it! Will try coriander next week. My girls fave at the moment is bistro salad lettuce the one with bits of beetroot in.

mine have corriander most days and parsley occasionally. tried them on Basil but neither were fussed...

Hi, sorry to go off topic but I cant message you. I think because I'm new. Anyway can you tell me where you got the orange stool in you avitar from please. I have just got a set of orange fleeces so am looking for matching stuff. I'm in the north west too.

Thanks a lot

Mine love coriander, parsley , basil and thyme (in that order).

They're not too fussed about mint or oregano but will nibble it and come back to it at later points in the day!

Hi sorry just seen this - the stools both came from Tesco Wigan, I'm sure any Tesco will have them....

Happy shopping x

Once every couple of months we treat ours with parsley but we generally avoid non-grass based food except for treats like romain lettuce, cucumber, pepper or dandelion.

Other than that, I avoid herbs and other veg to avoid unwanted vitamin A, calcium, protein and other nutrients that they don't need/are dangerous.

Please try to avoid any lettuce other than romain lettuce. Lots of leetuce types are high in phosphates which can be very dangerous.

You have to post 50 times before you can PM by the way :)

ches and maisie love herbs. they have coriander, parsley, basil and thyme. they didn't like mint and weren't keen on dill either.

Our's particularly love dill, they have only had it a few times when it has been on offer/ reduced though. I'm currently growing them some coriander on the windowsill :)
