Well on Saturday I went to an auction to sell some of my ducks (yes I have 25 ducks) and I saw a box of baby guinea pigs. I was thinking about getting piggies before because I had had one when I was little. So I saw these guys and I just had to buy them. Turns out they still have part of there umbilical cord attached. How ok would they be? Plus how would I socialize them? There horrible terrified of me.

Your second post has confused me as I don't know what you mean by "old ***"".

However, based on your first post, my advice would be to get them to a vet as soon as possible, i.e. tonight!

Think she means how old would they be? I'd say a week maybe 2 if the cord bit is still attached :(

Hopefully Suzy will be along to give advice soon, but in the meantime I really would recommend taking them to the vets asap.

She originally wrote 'ok' by mistake instead of 'old' and wanted to correct it!

They seem very young "/ could you post a picture? How big are they? They will definately need to see a vet ASAP and it's very likely you will need to syringe feed them. Are they eating and drinking for themselves?
Another important thing is sexing them. You will need to seperate boys from girls at 3 weeks to stop the girls getting pregnant.
It's a good idea to weigh them daily as this will determine if they are growing
good luck x

Hi there and welcome to the forum, hopefully I can help you with your new babies.

Please weigh them - in grams if you can as it gives an indication to their age and my advice will differ for pigs of under 3 weeks or those big enough to have left their mother already.

If they weigh less than 200g then they will need extra feeds over the dry guinea pig food, hay, water and small amount of veg they need daily. What guinea pig food do you have - the mixed muesli type or the nuggets that all look the same?

If you have the nugget type please soften 2-3 tablespoons in a little hot water for 10 mins - this will make it far easier for the little ones to eat. If you have the muesli type grind it in a coffee grinder to a powder and add a little water to make a mash.

I will wait for you to respond before giving further advice as it will depend on their weights.

There getting fatter even over the two days I've had them :D they can fit in my boyfriends hand (man sized hand is what I assume) they eat like pigs XD lots of food everyday. I was going to go buy them some better pellets then the ones I had today. What kind would be the best? They seem like there about 3 weeks old from the research I've done for far. It's only the two little brown ones with the cord Agi and Mark. Blanch and Bubba are all healed up. So my questions now are: how do I weigh them, and with what? What kind of pellets should I get for them? How can I post a picture while using an iPod? And is it ok to feed them lots of apples? That's on of them best things they like are apples and carrots.

You can use kitchen scales to weigh them. Please do not feed them apples yet - their digestive system will not be up to dealing with fruit - it has far too much sugar. Carrots in very small amounts every few days. At such a small size they need to be getting the balanced nutrition from pellets, as a diet high in veg can easily be too high in one type of nutrient and too low in another.

As I am unfamiliar which feeds are avilable in Canada I am unable to recommend one, hopefully one of our members more local to you can help there.

Apple is too sugary to feed every day. Carrots should also only be fed once or twice a week. If you go to our food section theres a guinea pig shopping list detailing what is best to give them.

They always need unlimited hay.

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE weight them, You can use your kitchen scales. If they are digital Take a bowl (with nice high sides) Place this on the scales and zero them, then add a pig, and see how much they weigh. If they arnt digital just place them in the bowl and read of the scale. And get them sexed, either by posting pictures on here by uploading to photobucket then copying the img code or have them sexed by a vet or you will end up with pregnant females, which is dangerous at this young age. (YES they really can breed from 3 weeks old!)

Pellets should be specifically designed for guinea pigs as they have different dietary needs to rabbits and other rodents.

Yes I know all this I have had guinea pigs before. I'm not an idiot. The apples are gonna stop. The picture above is the exact same size and color as my babies. Kitchen scales? Yah no we don't have any of those O.o

I'm very sorry, I was not meaning to insult your intelligence just giving information I thought you may need as you have asked for help.

Weighing piggies weekly is part of caring for them, so you will need to get some scales (they need not be expensive) And please get your little ones checked by a vet as sexing them, and checking they are old enough to leave mom needs to be the top priority.

Pictures are easily posted by uploading to photobucket. There is more info on this in the technical help forum,

When you say this picture is like your pig, if it isnt ACTUALLY your piggy it wont be helpful.

There's my piggies. I don't think tre any any vets around here who would take a look at them. Some ass wipe sold the little ones away drone there mommy, they were being auctioned off in a lot before them so I tried bidding on both but I was to late to get the mommy.TT^TT Where could I buy a scale?

Here's a link to cavy savvy vets in Canada - hopefully there is one close to you.

It is very hard for us to advise you further, as until you can give accurate weights it will be guesswork - given that you are 'not an idiot' then I hope that the pigs will thrive in your care. Once you have had them sexed and weighed we should be able to help some more. Any males over 250g must be separated as they can get the females pregnant, females can conceive from 4 weeks old so it is vital that they are sexed asap.

Those pictures are not working as they are from a sorce that doesnt work on this forum.

You can get scales from lots of places. I see you are in canada so i dont know the names of your stores but in the uk places like argos, tescos (big chains that sell many things) sell them.

Hi and welcome to the forum to you, your boyfriend and the piggies :)
Thankyou for rescuing them xx>>> poor little ones obviously shouldn't have been sold off yet......pow-pow
WHee have quite a few members from Canada if you say which province it might help them to advise you on vets etc...
I use photobucket it's easy to use (and i mean easy as i'm a puter dino!)
Good luck with your little ones. You will also need to get them sexed pretty quickly too, cause if you have both sexes it could mean babies! Boars are sexually active from a young age, round 3 weeks or so.

I think so :3 my mom says the brown ones look like little rats XD three of them are texel and on is all smooth and soft <3

I am so sad these poor babies were sold so early. I dread to think what happened to their poor mother. Thank goodness you rescued them and will ensure they are well. :)

There mothers were sold to this lady and her daughter because no one wanted them. My dad was going to bid on them but it was to late by the time I convinced him. She took them because no one else wanted them I think she felt sorry so hopefully she'll treat them well. I begged my dad to buy these guys. They were so little and looked so cold and so scared. My mommy instinct just kinda took over.

Well I hope the mothers will have a loving home. Thank goodness they are all in safe hands.

My pinny gigs are just dandy! They've gotten SO MICH BIGGER since I first bought them.
