I’ve got two outdoor guinea pigs, just taken on as rescues, I’ve had guinea pigs before but always had indoor ones. Can you guys let me know what you recommend for the hutch? I know sawdust isn’t good, ive also read some hay can cause fungal infections? I was thinking of maybe fleece but I’m not sure if that would work in an outdoor hutch. Any advice most welcome.;)F2314D3D-1A69-4426-8A13-25287276F7C2.webp

Welcome to the forum. I didn't get on with fleece outdoors as I found it attracted damp. I use aubiose which is a hemp based horse bedding. The wee soaks to the bottom leaving the top dry and I've been converted to it for a couple of years or more now.

I buy my hay from a local plant nursery. I think it's around £6.50 for a bale. I buy this because I put extra in to keep them warm especially in the winter when I will easily go through twice the amount. I've not heard of hay causing fungal but they can get hay mites. I have seen reports of these from all kinds of hay though from farm hay to posher packaged hay so I don't think there is a guaranteed way to avoid it

Thank you for both the welcome and the advice, I'm going to investigate where I can buy the aubiose 👍🏻 :)

If you have a look at their website they list their stockists that's how I found my local one. I store it in a shed so buy 3 bales (20kg) each at a time. Costs just over £30 for the 3 and lasts me around 5-6months in a 6ft 2 storey hutch
