Does anyone else's piggies hide ALL THE TIME!! :-\ If I have the hideout in their house, they are always in it. I never see them come out. I only hear them come out at night. I thought the piggies sleep at night and come out in the day...am I right? If the hideout is out of the house, then they stay huddles together in a corner...it makes me feel sad. I gave them the huge house yesterday to run around in and they just sit there. Now if I get them out then they run everywhere, but not in their own house. I have had 2 of the piggies for 3 weeks now and the new one for going on a week. Is this normal?

Sounds very normal when they are new to the household! Piggys are nervous by nature and it takes a bit of time and patience before they learn to trust you.

The way to much guinea pig's hearts is through food. Once they associate you as the bringer of food they will love you!

When ever I have a new piggy, I spend time just watching them. Being around them but not directly interacting with them. Once they seem comfortable with me just being there then I progress to hand feeding. It takes time but mine are all very tame.

Good Luck and stick at it - it's worth it in the end!

I have bonded wih cindy really well... she is always hiding in her house and running away from me... same with wilson and i have had him for a year now... I think it is just natural for them, being prey animals they would have to run and hide... to survive (in the wild lol)

yes, i'd say it was normal. When i got truffles he would dart into his hiding place as soon as anyone would come into the room. He is slowing getting used to us and sometimes he doesnt run and just sits there and he has now started wheeking for food.

Angel used to hide now all she does it try and climb out of her cage when we walk in the kitchen ::)

Thanks for the replies. I guess its just their thing then. When I go in there to play with them all, I take the hideout out for a bit and watch them play. Surprisingly, my newest pig, Ruxpin, actually comes up to me to see what I am doing, then he runs back to the other side. Chester never comes up to me and I have had him a long while now. Lenny is the sweetest out of the bunch. He doesn't run when I go to pick him up. I wish he would get well as I hate to see him bloated like that. The poor thing has been sick with different things since I got him. :'( :'( :'(
