homemade guinea pig snacks?

I've been wanting to make some snacks for my guinea pigs as many of the petstore ones are not nutritious and often way too high in sugar.

I've seen some recipes use oats? Is this okay and healthy for them?

Also does anyone know any recipes which include hay, so I can hand feed lots of treats without worry about them being unhealthy.

To be quite honest, they don’t need lots of treats, you’d really only want to give one true ‘treat’ such as fruit or carrot once per week. All they need is hay, hay and more hay. In terms of importance in the diet, their daily pellet portion of one tablespoon and their one cup of veg per day are really all the snacks/treats they need. Mine get some Piggie Parcels forage everyday, it’s healthy and is a form of enrichment as it is spread in with their hay so they have to search for it.
They can have a small amount of oats, but they are most commonly used as a way of bulking up piggies after weight loss due to an illness.
