Fudge had to see the emergency vet last night. She had soft stools yesterday morning when i got up, she was still very bright, no weight loss and eating and drinking as normal. I skipped her morning veg and went to work. When i got home, she then had diarrohea. I put it down to either the metacam or glucosamine upsetting her tummy, as shed just started these the day before due to an arthritis flare up. I gave her some zantac and kept a close eye on her.

I went to clean her bum late that night, and there was a small smear of red blood in her soft poo. I cleaned her up where she then past a semi formed stool.. And then drops of red blood.

We went to the emergency vet, who ruled out stones or uti as her urine tests where normal. Upon examining her down below, she realised the blood was coming from her vulva and not her rectum.. This is worst case scenario as fudge is not a candidate for any anaesthesia due to being in heart failure.

She scanned her abdomen, couldnt find her uterus! Fudge has alot of excess tissue/fat in her abdo in her old age, so she isnt the easiest to scan. The vet said she may have pyometra, but it is open i.e the discharge is draining, hence why fudge is still so bright. She could see an obvious pyo on scan, but couldnt see much so cant rule it out. The other option is trauma to her vagina i.e a hay stalk poke.

I was told to give her septrin (fudge reacts badly to baytril), and to take her to the vets today.

She is still bright today, the bleeding has stopped and her stools are now formed.. But shes still leaking watery stool liquid from her anus despite have semi normal stools- I'm not sure if this is discharge or not. She has also lost 20g overnight (fudges weight is usually extremely consistent at 1022-1026g), but she did have a rough night and slept in the hospital cage, so this could be part of it.

We have an appointment in 2 hours time.. Not ideal, not with usual vets but better than nothing.

Please keep her in your thoughts.. Fudge is 7 and beaten the odds for a year with heart failure. Shes bounced back so many times from illness.. I really hope she can do the same now :-(

We are always cheering for Fudge from Switzerland Adelle.
Wishing both you and her good news today and a chance to get some rest.

Good luck fudge and keep on beating the odds!
Massive squishy hugs to you both

The vet didnt rescan her but had a really good feel at her abdomen- she said she cant feel her ovaries at all or any fluid filled sacs in there so she highly doubts she has pyometra. Shes been given fibreplex to try harden her stools up, theres still been no more blood and i pray it stays that way.. However her poo is now even softer, coming out like whip! She is still eating her hay and pellets but has lost 30g now over the past 12 hours. I dont think syringe feeding liquid feed is going to help her stools, as well as the fact syringe feeding isnt ideal with her breathing issues. Obviously should the weight loss continue, i will need to start. Burgess now has a new recovery feed called dualcare, but it comes in a pack of pellets that u dissolve yourself (seems pretty pointless to me), so i offered her some in a bowl as apparantly they are to soothe digestion and aid in recovery- she seems to like them and ate a small pile.

This vet does think its been the metacam causing this, so I'm trying to stay positive that this is only a minor setback.

Praying its nothing more sinister :-(

So sorry to hear this matey. She is in the most experienced of hands with you. Sending you all the love In The world to you and Fudge. Times like this are so tough. She has good vets and a great mom behind her as well as her fighting spirit x

Oh god, you must be worried, poor Fudge. I really hope she improves. Good she is ok in herself.

Shes in and out her hidey eating her pellets, I'm hoping the weight loss is simply because the food is just flowing straight through her. Shes had an oxbow digestive support tab and I'm currently on my first of 2 buses to get to a pet shop in another town that stocks oxbow timothy as i know she loves that.

Shes so precious to me.. Anything other than a positive outcome doesnt bare thinking about.

Shes becoming a little quieter, iv called the vets and they said if she deteriorates further iv to bring her in.. Otherwise shes booked in for her scan 9am tomorrow morning, to double check this isnt a pyometra as, if it is, it would have progressed and more likely able to see something there.

A pyo means she'll need emergency surgery, which its extremely unlikely fudge would survive. I have already made the decision that, if an emergency op is needed, i will give her that chance and go for it. It wont go away on its own and will end up causing a painful decline- if she doesnt survive the op, it will be the anaesthetic and she wont feel a thing.

I'm very emotional and completely stressed out at the moment.

Oh Adelle, I've just caught up with this - how awful for you. Huge hugs for you and I have several furry and hooman fingers and toes crossed for our fav forum piggy. :luv::luv::hug::hug:

So... Just back from the vet again (3rd time in 19 hours- i am that client) after fudge had another bleed. They had no piggy vets in my usual branch so had to get a £20 taxi to the other one further away. Ofcourse, by the time we got there it had stopped. She had passed 4 completely normal poos (i was shocked as iv been wiping pooey mess from her bum all day) brought her out to check her underneath and she started dripping red blood. This is similar to what happened yesterday.. Diarrohea all day long with no blood, then as soon as they form she bleeds. So they are thinking gut related now, and even more convinced when the swabbed blood from her anus but none from her vulva (poor baby.) this is the opposite of what the emergency vet found last night, so I'm not 100% convinced yet. We wont be able to see much of her guts on ultrasound tomorrow morning, so it will be a matter of ruling out ovarian issues which will lead us to a gut issue.

Please all pray with me that this is something treatable.. I'm sick to my stomach thinking she could have a growth or something lodged and injuring her intestines.

In 2 weeks time, it will be a year anniversary since fudge was given less than a week to live. She is such a fighter and is still a happy girl that does all things piggy.. Long may it continue.

:hug:You've got hugs and prayer's from me and my girls. Little Fudge has the best looking out for her
