Thanks helen, i literally feel sick with worry. Her poos are starting to soften again, and low and behold the bleeding has stopped. I have no idea whats going on with my poor baby.

My oldie Ellie had really bad, reoccurring bleeds(really red thick blood) that seemed to happen when she pooped, it cleared up a bit when she was on baytril but came back not long after it was finished.
the vet didn't want to over use antibiotics, so that's when she had her conscious ultrasound scan & her ovarian cyst was found, she had the two chorulon hormone injections & the bleeding only happened I think once more after the injections never again, even after nearly two years from the first injection at 6yrs'ish.

hopefully its a minor infection that will clear up with the septrin, could it be a stone scratching her tubes?

c'mon Fudge we're all rooting for you down here, fingers, paws, arms, legs & everything else crossed too for you.
hope the vets goes well tomorrow & its easily treated.

speedy recovery love from the girls & I. xx

Enjoying her burgess dualcare recovery pellets... No need to syringe feed her as yet.

She is so beautiful, with the most impressive whiskers a piggy has ever had.

I wonder if there is some kind of inflammation in the gut. Can guinea pigs get anything like colitis?

Id imagine they could.. There isnt much mucous though, and colitis is usually bloody jelly through the mucous. She can go from smearing soft stool to normal poos just as quick, and then back again. She only passes blood after a few normal poos, when i check her bum after, its just pure fresh red blood but no soft stool anywhere.. When theres soft stool theres never any blood. Its almost as if the hard poos are irritating something along her GI tract and causing a bleed. But it still doesnt explain the changes to soft stool so suddenly. I'm hoping for answers sooner rather than later

Its funny you say that, i thought of Ellie on the way to the vets this morning and how u said she used to have bleeds with her cysts issues. The problem with fudge is, we cant even find her ovaries or uterus on ultrasound (thats 3 vets tried now), and they cant feel them which suggests they arent huge or majorly fluid filled. But it doesnt rule it out.

If we find cysts, i may opt for the injections as I'm obviously not going to put fudge through a surgery knowing theres a ridiculously high chance of her heart stopping under anaesthetic. Obviously if there is a womb infection, we wont have an option.. She has come too far to not give her that chance if it comes down to it.

A gut issue is probably the lesser of all evils.. But it could still be something potentially nasty.

9.5 hours until her scan.. It cant come quick enough!

good luck with the scan &I'd definitely recommended the injections if u do find ovarian cysts-it would be the least invasive of the options if possible.

I know my dog had colitis about a month ago &was really grotty with it for about 2wks -she had a probiotic paste for a week then a form of metronidiazol (sp?) antibiotics for a week that finally cleared it up, there was little blood &intermittent mucous. Just major diarrhea. I know guineas have been prescribed these antibiotics before , but not sure how they would react with fudges current meds.
Fingers crossed fudge not long now until your scan. Healing vibes. Xx

Come on Fudge! The whole forum and their piggies are routing for you sweetheart! That's one huge army of support.

Get well soon

Woke up to a mound of diarrohea this morning- not a single formed poo in sight :-( it was all in the one area, she was covered in it, and when i offered her dualcare pellets she refused them. I plonked her on the scales expexting the worst- she obviously hadnt moved much all night and now potentially not eating either..

But her weights up by 4g, and she went off to munch hay after i bathed her feet and bum. So she must have been eating just fine overnight- i only have hay in the cage, so she must have been up and down more than i thought.

She seems a little deflated today, i cant blame her. Her tummys making a racket, i just hope she isnt in any pain.

Not long until her scan now..xx

Oh you poor things! Talk about going through the mill *big hugs* for your both.

I really hope you get some answers and your lovely little lady pulls through. She reminds me very much of my Tango, he had a smiley little face like hers too! x

aww just caught up with this.. Poor Fudge.... heres hoping you get her sorted today x

I keep checking this thread for updates.
I m guessing you are at the vets right now, so i am hoping you get some answers and good news for Fudge.

She isnt doing great today, shes looking uncomfortable and not very well.

Trying to hold back the tears!

They have decided to keep her in and give her fluids under the skin, a little at a time so they dont overload her heart. With all the diarrohea and the diuretics, they are worried she'll dehydrate. They will syringe feed her too although she is still eating hay.

They have ruled out a pyo or ovarian cysts, which is good. The liver looked fine and theres no obvious masses in her abdomen.. But she was uncomfortable over her kidneys, and they are worried she may be in kidney failure. If she is, i will need to let her go.

I cannot stop crying, my heart is breaking leving her there.

:soz:I'm sorry to hear this hun
 sending massive hugs and healing vibes to you and Fudge

So sorry to hear this Adelle, but she is in the best place, and no one could have done more or tried harder for Fudge.
Remember as hard as it is that you also need to take care of yourself.
Fingers crossed that the fluids do the trick, and she is back home with you very soon.
