I'm sorry I don't come on as much any more so have missed this until now! I'm sorry you've been going through more problems but am so pleased fudge is making progress. I will keep my fingers crossed for you it just keeps getting better. I think you're an amazing person and guinea pig mum, you are doing such a wonderul job (like you have previously) I think you're brilliant! You are both in my thoughts x

Fudge is getting stronger and stronger. No bleeding in 28 hours, and normal poos in the same timeframe. Her weight is up today so will give less ml per feed tomorrow. Eating v small amounts of veg (thats all I'm giving her) and lots of pellets and hay. Shes doing so well, i didnt think we where gonna make it out of this one.. But she proved us all wrong yet again. Back to the vet tomorrow for another metacam injection, as i want to make sure the inflammation is definately under control before we consider stopping it or switching to oral; and as she is still a little gassy and needing gripe water, i dont want to do it until i feel shes ready. In herself; she is very bright.

Goodnight from us both and thanks for all the well wishes!

Yaaaaay Fudge! We're all glad you're feeling better!
Nawww Crunchie I don't blame you for not liking the yucky bits in the cucumber!

Fudge is going back to the vet earlier than planned.. Not because of her.. But because crunchie had a grass seen in her eye and its all looking a little sore..Great...

Poor Crunchie and poor you Adelle, it never rains but it pours they say but it really is time you had a break. So pleased to hear Fudge is doing well, must admit I was a bit apprehensive signing in tonight. :hug:to you all.

Crunchie has an ulcer despite seeing the vet quickly.. I removed the hay from her eye within 2 mins of being out of bed but clearly the damage was already done! She has isathal and lubrithal. She got home and dived head first into the hay.. Safe to say mum wasnt too happy!

Fudge had her final metacam injection today as doesnt have to see the vet till wednesday.. An improvement on daily vet trips since last wednesday! Her poos where normal for 48 hours, so i stopped the tree bark powder as I'm trying to wittle down all the supplements to see what we need and what we dont.. But she has soft stool again now, more just sticky and not as bad as before. So were back on that! Still needing gripe water to. But other than that, still moving in the right direction.. Managing her weight better too. She is enjoying cuddles tonight and soon fell fast asleep!

Wish love and best wishes could make your piggies well again, I'd send them in bucketfulls. Everything crossed that they get well very soon.

poor Crunchie.

It'seems really nice to see pictures of you having cuddles with Fudge .

It seems never ending for you @Adelle. Hope Crunchies eye soon mends. Great to see Fudge so bright. Little beauty.

Poor crunchie. Fudge's story is sooo in inspiring. It amazes me how fudge is recovering. Hope crunchie will get better soon!

I agree. It is great to hear fudge is better and wonderful seeing her pictures. As for Crunchie I to hope the eye feels bette real soon.

Poor Crunchie - I hope her eye heals quickly.

Huge respect for Fudge the wonder pig - her resilience is amazing...........thankfully

Lovey pictures of Fudge's famous kisses x

So.. Fudges stools softened again yesterday evening, but lasted several hours and i thought, okay this isnt just a blip...
But Not long after she was firing out her usual bullet sized poos in an orderly fashion! I am considering upping the frequency of the tree barks power doses, as she was worse without it and everything else has been unchanged. We are keeping a trigger diary!
This is likely to be an ongoing issue, an inflammatory gut issue but the good news is it does respond to the herbs and those arent adding to her list of actual medications for her heart.

Just beflre bed last night, she was out with me eating pellets for half an hour (yes, half an hour..) in between running to my knee when she needed a little water if her mouth got dry (she really is THAT spoiled!).

Then In her cage she proceeded to shout, and had a couple of little head twitches (a 7.5yr old piggies version of a popcorn) before...

She errupted into full blown popcorns! All four feet off the ground, twisting, turning and shouting like a looney. I was so happy i didnt want to take my eyes off her to reach for my phone to record her.. She hasnt popcorned like a young un for a long time, even before she went into heart failure. She loves her zoomies and her tantrums and her mini popcorn/twitches.. But to see her actually jumping like a good un made all of this worthwhile. Even more so that she is now only 10g below her normal weight before she got ill. She is down to 3x 5ml feeds and 3x 5ml water today and hopefully that will be that done.

Shes here, shes happy and she is loved more than she'll ever know.

How is Fudge nd Crunchi doing today, you are very devoted mum,Hugs to you adelle.

I'm working away again this weekend, and fudge and crunchie have came with me.. Woke up to both of them not doing great!

Crunchies eye ulcer isnt healing, she had a procedure done yesterday where they scratch the surface of the ulcer to encourage bloodflow and healing.. This has caused her eye to be sore today, so she is now on extra metacam and syringe feeds until monday where she'll see the vet.

Fudge had diarrohea flowing through her this morning again. I have an appointment for her to be taken by the pet ambulance to a nearby vet for subcut fluids and her metacam given by injection. I will hopefully get the fluids home and continue them every few hours, as she cant have alot in one go due to her heart, and is at risk of dehydration due to her diuretics. The pet ambulance is taking her, as I'm not allowed to leave the premises here at the boarding kennels.

I am stressed up to my eyeballs and so worried about my girls.

I'm very sorry to hear this Adelle.you must have some amazing vets to know all this.Peter guerney has some excellent ideas in his books for loose stools it maybe worth aread on the internet.I'm thinking of you at this very difficult time.xx:hug:

Fudge went to the vet near here. He said he has never seen a history so long for a guinea pig. Her poos where normal by the time she got to the vet.. However..

He gave her a once over and said her chest sounds horrific. Crackly. Shes lost 30g, which he was also horrified at. He also moaned about her hair loss.. And her cysts on her side..

Now this was all being passed on second hand as i couldnt be there.. But i was majorly upset as i got the impression he was insinuating i was neglecting her! The only positive thing he had to say was her colour was good.

He refused to give her subcut fluids, as said he thinks an injection would tip her over the edge. So i stressed her on that journey for no bloody reason.

I panicked about the crackly sounding chest.. Although fudge is in heart failure, her chest never sounds "horrific". It sounds like a normal 7.5 year old guinea pigs that doesnt have heart failure! Her breathing isnt more laboured, so i doubted it could be fluid. Especially since her colour was good.

I decided to start fudge on septrin incase she has a URI. This isnt going to help her guts, but i am stuck here in the middle of no where after trekking my old girls with me as i felt it was in their best interest, i am limited with regards to getting them to a vet... Either that or i left her untreated with a potential URI which would probably be fatal for her. And i feel so guilty now. I cant stop crying and feel sick to my stomach!

So now, i wait it out until the morning where il speak to my vet by phone, in the hope fudge hasnt deteriorated. She will go to her usual vet on monday morning for a chest xray to see where we stand with her lungs. In the meantime i am syringe feeding her food and water and am getting absolutely no where as I'm scared she will aspirate and il make her chest worse.

I am in pieces, and can safely say this will be fudge and crunchies last trip out here with me. They will be spending the rest of their days at home in their own beds. I am not doing work away shifts anymore as long as i have my girls.

Totally blaming myself for this situation!

I just want them home where they are stress free and have their vet to hand.

Please don't blame yourself, you are one of the most dedicated owners there is and you are doing your very best.I'm keeping fudge and crunchy in my thoughts xx

:agr:
You are one of the best owners I know, you're doing everything you can. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
