There is a horse chestnut tree just outisde my garden over the fence, hanging over some of the lawn. In the warm weather during the day, I often put my guinea pigs on the lawn in an enclosed safe pen below this tree where the tree's leaves, nuts, and twigs have often fallen.

I am 100% certain it is a HORSE chestnut tree, I have looked up the difference between sweet and horse. I just need to know if it is safe for my piggies to be able to nibble on the wood, the leaves, and the nuts? I usually clean up the exercise pen's area so it does not have these leaves just to be safe, but I thought I'd ask in case there is no need to clear it up.

Thanks :)

My piggies used to eat oak leafs in my garden, no ill effects, not sure of other trees, apple and willow wood is ok.

I'm not sure but i would assume that you should carry on clearing up, I've always been told Horse chestnuts don't do humans any good if eaten. so i wouldn't like to risk it with piggies

:hmm: Cant think who has free-rangers on here, someone else must have horse chestnut trees in their garden that will know- hopefully even if its just a case of they dont do them any harm, but they aren't interested would be nice to know.
xx

Conkers (horse chestnuts) are toxic and I think other parts of the tree are considered potentially toxic.

Okay thank you, I will continue to clear up. It's more hassle to clean up, but why risk my piggies' health? :)
